since we have had a little dialogue on this subject recently i just wanted to comment briefly. i feel that if you are in an IR relationship, and you live in a place that is totally hostile to your lifestyle, it can cause problems. when i moved from the bronx, n.y. to miami, the change i experienced, although subtle at first, became more and more noticeable. down here, there is still that "southern" aspect thrown in to the way of life which i find to be a total annoyance. I don't feel that those of us that are in IR's should have to strive for other peoples approval and that is certainly not my objective because honestly, i could care less what ignorant people have to say, but when you have to live in a community full of bigots and hateful people, they have a way of making your life difficult. i think it is sad that when we have a pending move, the first thought that pops into our heads is "how well will be excepted by these people"? we do it for the sake of our childrens feelings and our own. we have been made to feel somewhat uncomfortable here which is why we have made the decision to move back home. of course there are other underlying reasons, but the race thing is definitely an issue. my point being, although IR's are becoming more and more acceptable, we still have to be somewhat cautious as to the areas in which we choose to live in especially if there are children involved. if they are all black neighborhoods, there will be problems as well as if they are all white neighborhoods. always looking for that happy medium.
