I think perhaps in the past Jewish-American women were the ones who were more willing to marry black men. This was certainly the stereotype, Richard Wright's wife for example. I actually tend to think that Jewish women are less likely to be interested in black men, because they SEEM to be overwhelmingly looking for Jewish men. I would not expect this from women from the Orthodox community (there are levels of Orthodoxy I've found), but perhaps from the "Reform" community. It may be a thing from city to city since I don't seem to observe Jewish women in Los Angeles looking for black men any more than other women.

I have observed SOME Jewish men being interested in black women, Asian women, and blonde women though.

At my college I actually heard a very prominent Jewish man speak out about how "unhappy" he was with the current state of intermarriage and the Jewish community, i.e. there is too much of it.

I saw the movie"Liberty Heights", it was at the cinema not Television and it was about race mixing in the 1950's. It was written and directed by the same guy who did the television show, "Homicide".

I am very interested in the connection between blacks and jews in the past and present. I wonder what the marriage stats are now? Do you know of any websites for black and jewish relations?

Yes, there is a Liberty Heights in the northwest corridor of Baltimore City. Years ago, it was the home of the upper middle class, both black and white. I'm told there was even a made for T.V. movie made about that community. Unlike Hampton in the city's northeast corridor, which was German and Irish communities, Liberty Heights was more liberal and mixed racially. Hampton was intolerant toward racial mixing. Now Liberty Heights is largely a runned down community populated by the "black underclass", thanks to riots, crime, and that good old liberal policy of housing, section 8.

I too found jewish women to be some of the most intellectually stimulating individuals you can meet. Back in the sixties and seventies, many of them were girlfriends to the black nationalist leaders of the time.

An important difference between the attitudes of young Jewish women and other white women toward interracial dating and marriage is that the Jewish woman do not face the same rejection from her men as white women from other groups. here in northern california, i see and know of quite a few bm/jw relationships. i work with a jewish woman married with children to a brother. he's a cop and she's a social worker, perfect match up, eh?

also, it's a well known fact that jewish women "run tings" in the reggae music business, especially publishing.

i also know of a jewish woman who "dates" a "renta dread" in jamaica. she is an open pocketbook for him, but that's another story (and as a caveat, more than jewish women do this).

I can say that while attending an Ivy League University in New England and again in graduate school in Upstate New York, I had great Jewish female friends and lovers. They were more open to having reltionships and were intellectually stimulating and extremely attractive individuals. They were the most liberated women I've encountered and spoke their mind on subjects most women seemed to cower. I think the fact that Jewish women were seen as more intellectually equal to jewish men, they weren't/aren't as afraid to step outside of the box to find love. Other ethnic groups of white women, in my experience, seem afraid to challenge the status quo, to go against family to clain love. Some Wasps are like that too, but I find other ethnics like Irish and Italians, more afraid of their male dominated family structure and perhaps their religious rules.

I am not ashamed to say, as a protestant and black man, that I have the biggest jewish woman fetish. I love them, their style, their intelligence and humor. I find them sexy, especially the more religious, the more semetic, Israeli jews. Like white men today have Asian woman fetishes, I have the intense attraction for Jewish women.

Here in Philly, I don't see much racial mixing at all, so it is hard to tell if the Jewish community of women are open to interracial dating with black men. Jewish have been traditionally more liberal, but the liberlas in this city are so reactionary and racists, that I don't see them mixing with the black population. I see Jewish men, however, going after Asian women here with an intensity. Perhaps jewish women here are more conservative and assimilated into the mainstream white culture, so they reject mates of other racial groups especailly black men. Asians seem to be a safer choice because parents do see them as a threat and they have been successful in the business industry. However, Asians are underrepresented in the social sciences and Non profit sector, where Jews, blacks and hispanics are more prevalent. I really am interested in the black/jewish connection and disconnection.

Liberty Heights, Huh? I have to check out Baltimore, since I have moved here one year ago from the Northwest and where jews and blacks were more contected.

A lot of what I have seen and experience on this question of Jewish women dating black men is the fact that in New York City, especially where the largest concentration of Jews and blacks live, than in any other city in the world, many black/Jewish marriages have and are occurring there than ever before. It has been reported in earlier studies by the likes of black sociologist Calvin Hernton that Jewish women more than any other group of white women had interracially dated and married black men. Without me going into details, I would like to know if this is something many of you know to be a fact were you live or have known that Jewish women and black men are drawn to each other, because of strong mutual involvement in civil rights and a common racial struggle? I know in the city of my birth Baltimore, in an area called Liberty Heights (then an affluent Jewish community and to some extent still today) years ago, Jewish women sought out and dated black men in large numbers. Today, they still do. Many actually go into the black areas of the city to seek out desirable black males. Any comments on this sensitive subject. ~ Roberto
