Thank you. Yes, I would like to correspond with you on learning linux. Right now at my place of employment (new job) I'm learning Visual Basic, C++, Java, and Oracle. I find Linux challenging as its being used as an operating system of choice in more mainframe enviornments. Mad Scientist, I'm in the process of moving to a new home and getting settled into a new job. As soon as I'm in place I will give you my current email address here which we can correspond. I will cancel that address after I get your address and then I will recreate a new account (for the purpose of making contact first). It will be my pleasure to work over cyberspace to learn something new with someone. Thank you again. ~ Roberto

it's been a minute since I've stuck my head in here... hey c-no-color!! where ya been girl?

Browneyes (Tiffany)
20 3/4 years old
Bio major at NC A&T University
(pre-med)
Hometown: Brooklyn, NY
residing in: Greensboro, NC
Religion: Christian (non-denominational... we're all God's children, heh?)
Favorite food: lasagna, cheesecake, arroz con pollo, shrimp scampi
Music preference: R&B, some rap, jazz, classic soul, 80's (gotta love Teena Marie, Taylor Dayne, Sting, Rod Stewart, Culture Club, etc...), Contemporary Christian, gospel, some alternative, dance, pop
Hobbies: volunteer work (YWCA teen parent mentor program, public library), exercise, reading, making friendship bracelets

In my short 20 years of being here, I have been through a lot considering I never had it rough growing up. (with the exception of being picked on for being smart; in grade school I was capable of reading and spelling at college level, so I flunked quizzes and tests to get people to quit making fun of me... bad decision) January 12, 1998, a car hit me walking home from school and had me to spend nearly a month in the hospital. Let's just say it was bad enough, that from what my mother said, the chaplains were already in the emergency room (and considering that they only come when they think you're gone or getting there), I am truly grateful and know the value of life. Miraculously, I survived and healed in about several months time and to this day, no one has no idea unless I tell them that something that drastic has happened to me. It's all the more reason why I believe that God has me here for a purpose, that calling to be as a physician.

Because I am grateful, I like to devote my time doing volunteer work and projects, and telling my story so that it may be inspiration to someone who may feel sorry for themselves. My life is testament that with a lot working against you, it CAN be done. :o) Thanks for listening!

I'm more of a beginner at this point, but I'm learning quickly. I know how to compile the kernel at this point, and am working on learning how to compile and read other source-code, how to properly unzip and install .gz and .rpg packages. So I still kind of a Newbie, but I still might be able to help you on some issues. For the beginner, who has little or no Unix experience, I would recommend using the Mandrake distribution of Linux, as it has by far the easiest install. Also, Mandrake is pretty much compatible with everything that Red Hat is compatible with. So with Mandrake, you would do very good. If you become an expert, you might want to learn how to install "Linux From Scratch". But that is only if you are an uber-hacker, which is what I'm trying to become. So we could correspond with each other on our issues. Linux-Mandrake 8.0 has just been released. But it is only available on the Internet. I used the iso images, which I burned onto two CDs. But you need broadband, as you will have to download 1.3GB. With my T1 connection, I did this in 2 hours. :-). And best of all, this is free! Or you can wait until mid-May, when 8.0 is released in stores. It'll cost $30, but will come with 4 CDs instead of 2 with extra programs. If you plan on using Linux, I would recommend that you have a second HD. When I bought Linux a few weeks ago, I luckily had a second HD, so that really helps, as you don't have to partition a part of your "windows" HD, and can just use Linux on your second HD, and this works perfectly. So just buy a new HD, and you can have the Mandrake installer just reformat that entire HD in ext2 format, which will be much easier and much safer than trying to divide the HD.

How much of a strong foundation do you have in the operating system "Linux". I may like to correspond with you in the future on my email on this software structure. This is another frontier I wish to conquer. ~ Roberto
