I spent eight years living in Asia (Korea, Okinawa, Taiwan, and the Philippines duing the 1970's. The one thing that use to stand out with me was that the men always lead (walked ahead of the woman) and the women always followed behind. Culturally it is not a subjugation of the women to a lesser role in those societies, but an acknowledgement of the chivalry that the man always put himself first as a shield to protect the woman. I remember in the rough areas of modern Seoul, Korea, Naha, Okinawa, and Taipei, Taiwan, this was most evident as it was in centuries past as the asians would would tell you. ~ Roberto

The funny thing is, the woman walking behind her husband seemed completely content. It was if she hadn't a care in the world. She is to the manner born.
Actually, they say the reason women walked in back was for protective reasons...he watches the front end while she watches the back...but I did not see her turning around to see who might be following her.

I always have felt sorry for those woman covered from head to toe. My friends and I went to a muslim country for a holiday and we were having a conversation with a woman who was covered, she said she covers her face because her husband does not want any other man to look at her. If a woman disobeys her family or religion her father, brothers or cousins will kill her. Fair enough, they are following their religion but to walk behind a man because he is a leader? thats beautiful?? She may look up to him, but what sort of pride does he have for her? The woman we were talking too said that 'no, she didn't mind at all, that this was her place'..I dont think Ill ever understand it...are those women truly happy?

HE created a woman and lots of lovin for a man. Yes, He did with just 100 pounds of clay. Yes, He did with just 100 lbs of clay........" and so that great song by Sam Cook goes on.

You know the other day I was driving down Antioch Road and saw a Muslim man of elderly age walking...and behind him was a woman...who walked several paces behind. She was covered from head to toe in the fashion of their religion and culture. At first it made me feel afraid. I thought that maybe this man might be a wife beater, a starver, a pedofile.
Then, I thought again: He walked so tall and straight and sure of himself. His confidence was there. Even for an older man, he did not stoop.(Although, I could tell he has arthritis) He felt some pain. His wife seemed perfectly happy to walk and follow behind him. He was the LEADER, and she was the FOLLOWER. How beautifull!!!!:-)
I only hope that at the very least....he is a good man and a good leader....
After I told my son about the couple he said that the woman has more power than you think. I could not see that, but my son thought so.....

If a man is a good man and leader.......I too would follow him to the ends of the earth..:-)

However, if he is not a good guy......he will have one big fight on his hands...

And, so the song goes "He created a woman and lots of lovin for a man........................"

I am up late again tonight cleaning because the housing department is sending someone to my place to walk through all our rooms and see if our housing is adequate...
I hate this........a perfect stanger (no matter their suedo-nice mannerisms...still reminds me of ......commu...m. Good nite.
