Bloomberg Ahead In New York City Mayoral Race

New York, NY (AHN) - New York City Mayor and multi-billionaire Michael Bloomberg is poised for a comfortable reelection after a new poll shows him well ahead of Democratic challenger and City Comptroller William Thompson.
In a Quinnipiac University survey, Bloomberg leads Thompson 54 percent to 32 percent. Adding to the summer season, Quinnipiac also asked Big Apple voters "who they would rather picnic with on July 4th." The majority of voters would rather chat with Bloomberg on America's birthday, by a 36 percent majority.
Bloomberg leads among Democrats, Republicans, independents and even Hispanic voters. African Americans are split over the two candidates at 43 percent.
"This latest survey shows the challenges Comptroller William Thompson faces as he tries to portray Mayor Michael Bloomberg as unlikable and out of touch, and as he tries to build a base of black voters," Quinnipiac University Polling Institute Director Maurice Carroll explained. "Black, white and Hispanic voters all would sooner share a July 4th hot dog and a beer with Mayor Mike than with Bill Thompson."
"The Bloomberg blitz of early campaign spending is overkill, New Yorkers think. But whether or not it's the spending, the Mayor's approval, and his lead in the reelection campaign, remain high," Carroll added.
