This deception started off with Paul and the NT as a whole:

Corinthians 9:20-22: To the Jews I became as a Jew, in order to win Jews; to those under the law I became as one under the law -- though not being myself under the law -- that I might win those under the law. To those outside the law I became as one outside the law -- not being without law toward God but under the law of Christ -- that I might win those outside the law. To the weak I became weak, that I might win the weak.

Romans 3:7: If through my lies God’s truth abounds to His glory, why am I still being condemned as a sinner?

Philippians 1:18: In every way, whether in pretense or in truth, Jesus is proclaimed, and in that I rejoice.

 

Oh yes an another very important issue. The Priesthood as instructed in the Torah is of the Levitical family, only Israel as a whole are referred to as priest of G-D (and Melichzedek at that time) but in context this is because Israel are to be the light to the Gentiles. However only the Levites are to receive tithes because they have no inheritance, only as workers for G-D.
All the tithes were to assist them in performing their duties and that is it.

Therefore these preachers/pastors who pay themselves are they Levites? Why are they spending the money on their own luxuries?

 

In any given religion you will inevitably have crack pots and people who seek to manipulate scripture to fit their own agenda. Unfortunately tithing is one of those areas that it is particularly easy to exploit. It's an accepted Christian belief that tithing is a command from God, and there's a lot of scripture to back it up. These boys just twist it to their own ends, which is completely inappropriate. Since it is to my knowledge the only time God says 'test me on this' in the Bible, it makes it easier for them IMO.

Malachi 3:10
"Bring the whole tithe into the storehouse, that there may be food in my house. Test me in this," says the LORD Almighty, "and see if I will not throw open the floodgates of heaven and pour out so much blessing that you will not have room enough for it."

So they justify their request for money by saying something like 'give and God will give back', and also they use it to justify their own materialism by saying 'I gave and God prospered me, so he wants me to reward myself'. Complete bullshit is what it is, but people buy it and as long as that's the case people will keep using it.

Despite the fact that preachers typically hold a place of respect and honor in the Christian religion, those people shouldn't allow themselves to be misled.

Mat 7:15
"Beware of false prophets, which come to you in sheep's clothing, but inwardly they are ravening wolves."

Jesus had the right idea on that one.

 

We disagree on destiny topic but we agree on this one. I do not go to church to have a relationship with the pastor/minster/preacher. Whatever he/she does, it's his/her business and will have to stand in front of Christ at the Day of Judgement to defend it. I go to church to manifest my ever lasting love for Christ, to have undying realtionship with my savior and to ask for forgiveness for my pathetic soul. I know, I know, I dont have to go to church to do that but I just like too.

 

Agreed GZ. I don't go to church to be seen by other people, or to make points with the preacher, I go for worship.
