OMG! When will this crap stop! v v v Santorum, left, Bachmann, right appear together at the June 13 CNN debate (Jim Cole/AP) http://news.yahoo.com/blogs/ticket/...oup-marriage-pledge-candidates-160133885.html
There’s no denial that single parent households as a rule would be worse off than those of 2-parent families. No one disputes that. However, there absolutely is no debate as to how ignorant and obnoxious the statement of Bachmann and the ilk ascribe to regarding those African Americans children born during slavery. To argue the ridiculous is ridiculous.Especially when you consider the fact that during slavery, a family could be broken up at anytime. Nat Turner was separated from his mother as an infant, and never knew his father. His paternal grandmother was on the same plantation. It's to bad that statements like that aren't physical tangible things because they would save the rest of us the cost of buying toilet paper.
Bachmann has since said she didn't see that part, and I believe her - it would be political suicide to endorse their comment. In her haste to jump aboard on all things Conservative, Christan and Marriage, she ignored that the devil is indeed in the details.
This is an excerpt from Jefferson's 'Family' by Lucia Cinder Stanton (about Thomas Jefferson) The first absentee fathers of the Black American family were in fact White men, many of whom routinely sold children they had sired with their own slaves. Because slaves were property and could not legally marry, the so-called slave family was not valid by law. Slaves also had no dominion over their own children. The term 'husband' and 'wife' among slaves meant a 'couple' not a legal status. Any owner was free to sell 'husbands' from 'wives', parents from children, and brothers from sisters. In a 'family' the parents not a third-party holds authority. As a result of the sale or death of a father or mother, over a third of all slave children grew up in households from which one or both parents were absent. This was the choice of the White male owners, even their White wives were subordinate to them by law. White male slave owners held authority over Black peoples bodies, life and welfare. They controlled the Black slave woman's vagina and everything that went in or out of it for over three hundred years. This Christian conservative group attempted to connect a very serious issue that runs as deep as this nation's history to a Black man, who adores his wife & kids who became President in 2008. While suggesting not a damn thing to counter the problem of absentee fathers. Unless you are prepared to take ownership of such a problem why mention it? Jack & Jill Politics,Cheryl Contee said:
Very insightful, and indisputable. The irony is indeed that historically, the White male slave Owner was this country's first absentee father...and by default/force, created Black "absentee" fatherhood.
That organisation and Bachmann are trying to weasel their way out. Who are they think they are? Blacks are not stupid and this woman has a husband who is owns a practice who tries to "pray the gay away" believes this slavery nonsense with a passion.
Yeah...but....if she didn't READ the damned thing first, why the hell would she sign it? And why would anyone vote for someone who cannot be arsed to even read the things she signs?? Sorry, but Bachmann and her ignorance, and her ignorant "got my clinical psychology degree online from a university that didnt offer one, but I can pray away the gay" husband drive me up a wall. But if you've seen him talk, as several of my gay friends said "Hellooooooo Mary, let's run a pool on how long till he gets caught in a bathroom in a wide stance, or a motel with a rent boy!"
LOL at your second paragraph...and to your first....its much like how congressman don't read 160-1000 page Bills put in front of the them to sign. They like cliff notes. Seems she does, too.
