A "perfect storm" of events will collide in 2013 and throw the world back to economic crisis, warns New York University economist Nouriel Roubini.

Roubini, who accurately predicted the timing and severity of the recent recession (December 2007), says investors have made overly optimistic U.S. growth expectations for the second half of the year and could get burned.

The economy will grow but at a sluggish pace, and those who haven't priced that assumption into their investment models are going to pay.

There have been economists with varied points of view regarding what economic projections. The fact is...the economy isn't easy to predict. In fact, it's VERY difficult to predict the outcomes overall. Not too long ago, back in the Bush era, Peter Schiffer accurately predicted the recession. He became a rock star and even been deified by a bunch of radical lunatics. The reason? He made an educated guess based on his personal economic stances.

He never predicted that there would be come volatility in the economy after the current administration took measures to get the country back on foot. We're not in a depression, but the economy is on a rocky kill.

Right now Roubini is projecting the state of the global economy and whether he's correct or not, we still have to recognize that anything can happen between now and the projected date. Unless this continues, then it'll be another bit of speculation based on one or more person's view on the state of the economy as a whole.

Mandingo, I think the jig is up. You might want to stop while you're ahead because there are some people here who already acquired the necessary information to figure you out. You've been on here before and you're trying to reinforce broken stereotypes again?

This isn't a joke. We want things to get better so people can perform basic tasks they need to carry out in life, such as buying food, paying the mortgage, and being able to find a full-time job. Eventually what's going on in Politics will affect our livelihoods.

Advocating for an economic crash is a foolish move on your part.

We could avert this if we had a better plan to avoid a downgrade of our credit. He (Roubini) realized that the plan in Washington wasn't good enough and that's why he holds this forecast for the economic outlook in 2013. That is why it is even more imperative that we raise taxes on companies/corporations and the wealthy Americans in this country. Unfortunately, 2012 will be another year of gridlock because we have to spend the entire year fighting a hard battle to keep Obama in Washington. The best we could hope for is a bill which mandates tax increases and a quicker draw down of the troops in Iraq/Afghanistan/Libya, by 2013, but even then, I'm not sure if this is feasible and it would be too late to make a move by then even if a bill of that sort does pass the House and the Senate.

Welcome back, first of all Mikey. And yes I do mean it. And secondly you are correct that there would have to be some consideration for tax increases, but the bigger issue is that the uninformed populace who voted the TEA Party into Congress. The more progressive front of this country don't have but a whisper, and the only way to counteract that would be to consider drowning out the voices of that conservative wing of the party.

We don't have a choice. Part of the problem (mathematically) is that voter turnout was lower in the midterm election years rather than in the presidential election years. If the voter turnout was at 2008 levels for the 2010 midterm elections, Democrats probably would have retained those seats. I would say that this is partially the fault of the American people who weren't engaged in what's going on politically.

IMO, I think Obama's best bet was to invoke the 14th Amendment so he can pass what he thinks would be ideal and also circumvent the opinions of Republicans. The GOP would have tried to impeach him and they would have failed.

I will concede that voter turnout when it is high favors democrats. But how will the democrats get those voters to come out if those voters feel that the dems have not delivered or done anything for them? You see what Im saying?

In general, political participation in America is lower than it is in other countries. I bet in every midterm election, there are less people participating in the voting process than in presidential elections.
