Ken Blackwell. He was Ohio's Secretary of State and ran for Governor against Ted Strickland in 2006. It seems like he's got a nice gig lined up

 

It's rather obvious that the GOP has to answer to the Democrats producing the first black president ever. Blackwell and Steele have their shoeshine kits ready for America, but I doubt either will be making significant inroads into the black community. Obama got 96% of the black female vote and 95% of black men, and it's typical for white Democrats to get 90% of the black vote.

This recalls the Soul Train fraud that was 2000 GOP national convention with Chaka Khan and Brian McKnight on the first night of it.

 

The reactions of Chris and Sat sound like what most liberals will probably think. A little cynical, and also unfortunately, not giving Steele and Blackwell credit for being significant leaders doing their own thinking, but rather, tokens of the Republican establishment.

Regardless of your political leanings, I think these two men should be given credit for their abilities and for their accomplishments and respect in their chosen party.

 

I think the blacks who automatically deem everything republican "racist",need to become more politcally literate .
Me personally,im a socially conservative,independent.

Id gladly vote for republicans like Huckabee and Collin powell if he had run for president.........

Unless the Republican party changes dramatically, these two will be just be figureheads and will not be able to recruit most black people.

Remember Ken Blackwell surpressed black voter turnout in Ohio and Mike Steele hired homeless people to pass out flyers stating he was a democrat.

Black people will look at them as "self-hating" Uncle Toms.

 

I really don't know much about either guy, it will be interesting to see, but I think you're right about the cynicism that they will encounter.

 

No, I don't remember these events occuring, but I do recall unsubstantiated rumors being spread by liberal bloggers.

That's what I don't get. It's like just because someone's a Republican, that means they're racist? C'mon. That's like every Democrat being tagged as an anti-American leftist.

Exactly. You can talk about "close-mindedness" and all this hoopla but until you explain suppressing American voters for expedient reasons, they remain pawns. The Republican Party has just witnessed its most explosive defeat since 1964 and it still continues to trot out the same reactionary, divisive, nuanced and exclusionary faces and ideas as representatives of its party.

If you really want to change the image of your party, you would not continue the same tactics that led to your downfall. That's like a car crash victim who continues to drink more alcohol weeks after recovering from a prior crash.

 

The GOP keeps recycling variations on the Southern Strategy by emphasizing the differences between "the real America" (read: conservative, white, Christian) and its more cosmopolitan counterpart.

It is good for democracy in America to have to pendelum swing from time to time. Before you go sounding any death knell though, keep in mind that the republicans have won 7 of the 11 presidential elections held since 1964.

I am looking forward to a very successful Obama administration, but I hope to hear from upcoming guys like Steele and Blackwell in the future as well.

 

Wow. I mean these guys have the whole copycat thing down to a science. First Sarah Palin and now this? I really wonder what the benefit to being a republican is?

Perhaps this new guy will be able to explain exactly what "Country First" means.

So much for Democrats literacy and logic. Sheezzzzzzzzzzz I have come to know that it is Republicans who are paranoid,ignorent and uninformed, as I go on various forums, but I just realise that I only saw one side of American Politics and it's people. When there is a hate crime, it is automatically assumed that it was republicans, when there is a racist issue, it is automatically assumed that it was republicans. Now that this black republican guy is coming to the front for a top position it is republican conspiracy!

For a very long time I suspected that as an African I can be proud of my understanding and reasoning comparing to people living in first world countries. Well you guys just confirmed my suspicion. It is a proven fact that God didn't give intelect and wisdom based on the race, status and country you live in.

The GOP has a very bad record on the relationships between them and Black-Americans.

It doesn't even surprise me that the GOP would do this. It's like when somebody is blatantly trying to appease the public because their beliefs and principles are so out of touch, they do something desparate to show that they understand what the people want by picking someone who "should" be able to relate to the public (ex; Sarah Palin).

Michael Steele is a known world-class suck-up and piss-boy for the republicans and what Ken Blackwell did in 2004 was unforgivable. By supressing the black vote for Ohio in order to secure a victory for George Bush, he was no different than the klansmen in the 1950's and 60's who would do the very same thing to black voters in the south.

If the GOP want's to win black voters, then they should choose someone who is very progressive-minded and qualified while not being chosen soley based on his skin-color. If it's one thing that I know is that the people of this great coutry hate it when the government tries to insult their intelligence.
