A Sydney mother who is living in the US with her African American husband and three children says she now feels so uneasy about her family’s future that they’re moving back to Australia.

The mother, who has asked not to be named, lives in the traditionally Republican state of Georgia. She said Donald Trump’s election as US president yesterday was the “straw that broke the camel’s back”.

“We’re coming home as soon as possible and hope to be back in Sydney by mid next year at the latest,” she told Nine.com.au.

“My husband is born and bred American but he’s tired of being black in America.”

The mother said a Trump presidency made her fearful for her husband and children’s safety.
