Yesterday I came over a site that offers free music downloads....

www.mixtapetorrent.com

I found the particular mixtape I tried to get.Downloaded it but it wouldn't open.So I went back on the site to check how their downloads work.
They said you had to download a program formerly known as Azureus and now Vuze. So I did that but still wasn't able to play the mixtape.
Is there anything else I need to download to be able to play Torrent files?

This weekend I just had to figure out torrents myself. I bought a little netbook and am trying to put Mac OSX on it. It was confusing because people dont want to post how to get the iDeneb version of the Mac OS.

Anyways, what I figured out was I downloaded utorrent, then open that program and click n drag that small file you have onto the utorrent window. It will begin downloading.

I have absolutely no idea how safe torrent sites are. If I had the option of using my retail version of Leopard instead of a hacked version of the OS, I would absolutely would have.:smt102

Thank you.I may try to see if I can get that to work.I'm not too good with computers.Lol :) If that fails I'll ask my computer guy :) If I still don't get it I will stick to WinRAR file downloads. That's easier I think.Lol

From my limited understanding, what you downloaded was just like a slip of paper with what you are looking for written on it. Programs like uTorrent read them and then go look for the download.

Well, torrent files aren't like audio files or any other files that you play, because they aren't playable. You can't play them until they are downloaded. The torrent file itself is a small file, like the size of a text document. The file you want downloaded can be from a couple kilobytes, to hella gigabytes. You open the torrent in the client, UTorrent, Flashget, etc., and the file, in your case the mixtape, will download to your computer as long as the torrent client is open. The torrent file is like a link you open up in the program, and it downloads the files off of other people's PCs onto your computer. The torrent file is sort of like something that lets your computer know what it wants to download, and the torrent client reads from that files, and downloads the files associated with the torrent data file. The more seeders it has, the better chance you have of the file downloading, and the faster it may download. If there are no seeders, then it won't download, because it can't find any other computers to download from. Seeding means, other people have the torrent still open in their client so others can download the file as well. It's kind of a common courtesy thing to seed. You can check your progress of the download in the torrent client. It usually tells you how fast the file is downloading, how many seeders there are, and when it's expected to download. And since it's a mixtape, I'm assuming it's 50-150 megabytes or so, so it shouldn't take long, assuming it has a decent amount of seeders.

Hope that helped.

People put WinRARs into torrents. Pretty much anything that's a file can be put into a torrent. Audio, video, programs, installation icons, and hella other stuff.

lol..wasn't demonoid shut down before, young buck

I remember reading about the FBI/SWAT raiding and seizing stuff, from a 'scene' group. They were bootlegging all types of shit online, on the real. If you got a good torrent site, keep it to yourself.

It's so easy to download stuff, it's ridiculous, especially for the PC. Which is probably why 'offline' PC games are every-so-slowly coming out. Developers are skipping the computer and are going right for the consoles, which have to be modded and all that crap, to run downloaded games. Online-based games require unique CD keys, so you'll still see them coming out. Singleplayer games that don't require online checks, you can forget that shit.

:p

Demonoid is back in biz but they've been down since 09/14 (for maintenance following a recent power outage). I've gotten some good stuff off there and have a pretty good upload/download ratio (86), due to leaving my PC on for about a week, seeding files.

after you lock-on to a good site, it's like being a kid at a candy store. not that I know anything about that, just postulating.

the only thing you won't get away with is online games. One way or another, you're going to end up paying, whether it is for a monthly service or a unique CD-Key to use online.

The ability for hackers to bypass digital distribution protocols, is mind-boggling too. I have not seen anything they could not get around.

Looks like they are having major issues over at demonoid.com. I hope I never have to post anything like this:

Maintenance

We will be back as soon as possible, but this will probably be a prolonged downtime.
Thank you for your patience

Status

The site will return as soon as possible, but there was a problem that caused data loss and the person who can help us get the data back is not able to help at this moment. The site will return when we can get his help

A loss of a some months worth of activity including registered users and torrent submissions is to be expected because the backup we are hoping to get back is not up to date, so please be prepared for it

All jokes, grape soda, and cherry kool-aid aside, thepiratebay.org is looking like it's standing on its last leg. Any ISP that allows them to use their bandwidth, is being cock-blocked by copyright infringement watchdogs. ISPs are being threatened with lawsuits and all kinds of 'ish, if they continue to let TPB run game on their lines. As of now, you can't even go to their site, unless you know some internet kung-fu.

This is the smart thing tho..instead of coming after a million pirates, they're just choppin off the big wigs, behind the thing-thing.

Get your swag while u can, lol.

R.I.P. to mininova

probably one of, if not THE best public torrent tracker for the past few years...

they have been slapped with lawsuit after lawsuit, and now only deal with digital distribution of officially authored content, like music from an artist(instead of any files people decided to randomly upload)
