I know this has nothing to do with wwbm, but seeing a brotha overseas with success is always worthy of a post, considering some of the perceptions we face as a group

I recall a small article in Jet or Ebony magazine of a black actor in Japan performing in Edo period dramas. I had even seen one black actor in the film The X From Outer Space(he didn't say anything, but he reacted). There were two black actors in the Gamera films(one was in the American version of Gammera The Invincible and another was in Gamera Vs Jiger(or Gamera Vs. Monster X). One black actor was in one Godzilla film called Godzilla Vs. Biollante, one was in Godzilla Vs. MechaGodzilla II, and a few in Godzilla: Final Wars(some of the characterizations were a little stereotypical, like a slacker, a pimp, a wino and a white cop). There was even a Japanese soap opera filmed in New York City in which a bunch of young black men try to victimize a young Japanese( woman these black men were the thug type) and is rescued by a Japanese street fighter. Teaching in Japan is a good place to start. But in the corporate world in Japan, you really have to be up on everything and you pretty much have to watch your back. The music and porn scene is okay for black men in Japan. Like anyplace else, I think it is all possible to succeed.

This wonderful and sad at the same time yet incredibly inspiring. I always admire people who are willing to leave everything they know to seek greater opportunities.

Japan is an interesting place to launch new ideas and build dreams. I knew a guy who was a musician and his band couldn't sell their album in the States. So, they sold the album in Japan and it sold very well. He still gets the residual checks. Actor David Hasselhoff sold an album in Germany and he did well with that. I've even read about an author who sold her first book and made her first million in the European markets. The thing is that if one cannot find a way in this country, one has to give up their comfort zone in this regard. Jimi Hendrix left Little Richard's band and moved to England to pursue his dreams of stardom. He came to London with his guitar and very little money. Now, he is among one of rock & roll's greatest. Dr. Gerald Bull, a Canadian scientist and inventor, wanted to invent a gun to rival a gun he previously invented. Everyone turned him down except for Iraq. The Iraqis gave him the money and facilities to build part of the gun and it worked. If it was completed, it would have given the Iraqis total domination(the gun was built on a revolving pivot and it could fire shells, missiles and other weapons from all directions). Bull was murdered in Paris, France and the Israeli Mossad claimed responsibility. Film maker Stanley Kubrick moved to England so that he can enjoy some freedom in making films. It is all possible as long as one is ready, able and willing to leave their comfort zone.
