I recalled looking at a book in the campus library about the torture devices used in the Dark Ages. Devices so extreme, I couldn't look at them a second time. Thankfully, it was in the Reference Section. Vlad Teppesh ,( one the inspirations for Bram Stoker's novel Dracula),impaled his prisoners while they were still alive. To this day, the people of Transylvania, Romania, still regard Vlad the Impaler a hero.
