First let me disclose that I am not a biologist, anthropologist, or geneticist; my academic training is in an area unrelated to the life sciences. My opinion(s) on the concept of race are reflective of recent scientific findings on the subject by researchers in the aforementioned fields. Luca-Cavalli Sforza, population geneticist, has entertained the question of it for decades and come away with the view that it is "scientifically meaningless."

Craig Venter, who made news last year for creating synthetic life in a lab, takes the same view that science does not support racial differentiation in the human species. Another variation on the same theme comes from C. Loring Brace who explains why he believes science disproves the notion of race.

That article is problematic on two particular fronts: A. Richard McCulloch is a white supremacist, but that doesn't necessarily discount his view on racial classification.

A quote near the close of his article:

The multiracialization of the populations of North America and, more recently, Europe, has begun to transform them into racial clines. As discussed in other essays on this site, this process of racial transformation will eventually cause the effective extinction or nonexistence of the European racial types in the affected areas unless adequate preservationist measures are taken to prevent it.

B. What is even more problematic than McCulloch's white supremacist, or "preservationist", ideology is that he is not a professional scientist. According to this interview, McCulloch studied history with a minor in anthropology in college. That doesn't necessarily render his opinions invalid either, but given that he isn't working within a body of peer-reviewed knowledge to support his claims their epistemic value is fairly suspect.

 

But "race" is a ridiculous indicator. Why not educational achievement or even more simple height or just plain who's stronger and who's weaker like every other species on the planet. The race thing in my opinion is incredible tool used by the haves to distract the have nots and it works so well.

White characteristics such as skin tone, hair, and eye colors that they have only are unique to themselves and I can understand them wanting to preserve them.

Something to keep in mind when we're trying to get into the head of someone prejudice toward blacks....More often than not, their prejudice has more to do with person on the receiving end being black than it does being different. The ignorant of this world attribute behavior traits with race, and no other race has been on the receiving end of this ignorance than black people. The other driving factor in a prejudice person's mind is peer pressure and what it means to please those around him/her.

Heres an example.... Take a 45 year old white, Baptist man who lives in a southern rural town. Hes having a big Thanksgiving dinner including neighbors and friends.
His daughter comes home from college for Thanksgiving and wants to bring one of the two guys she dates to the family house for Thanksgiving dinner. One guy is a young black man who grew up in the same town, celebrated Thanksgiving all his life, enjoys the same TV shows and is a active Baptist Christian. The other is a young Greek man who never celebrated Thanksgiving, doesnt understand our TV culture and is Eastern Orthodox.

Who would the father rather approve as her daughter's guest?

But about us Greeks, I want you to know we don't need Thanksgiving to appreciate family and life! We are deeply religious, passionate, love to laugh, celebrate, eat, enjoy life and have vigorous philosophical discussions! And after dinner, the table is cleared for the men to play all night! Oh yeah, and the Ouzo flows. Which is why a Black person can take a Greek home to their Black family for Thanksgiving. We'd fit right in!

While I am not aware of all his literary work, I didn't get the feeling that McCulloch's was a supremacist, nor did I feel he was discrediting the powerful genetic make-up of Blacks, which I think a supremacist would do so, therefore I appreciate you not wholly discounting his assertions. (though I agree that non-accreditation should warrant automatic suspicion in the field of genetics). Thanks again.
