Sometimes the most powerful art comes from the most personal challenges.

In 1996, after serving in Chicago-area churches as a Minister of Music, choir director, songwriter, and emerging force on the national Gospel music scene, VaShawn Mitchell found himself sitting alone in a jail cell. A youthful indiscretion resulted in a sentence the court system simply would not waive, despite the support and testimony of several of the Windy City's most influential men and women.

"A lot of times we can be on stage and appear a certain way because of a platform we have; but we haven't taken the opportunity to work through our character issues," VaShawn reflects. What could have been a career-ending moment became instead the catalyst for real ministry. "From that point on I started writing songs about life, love, encouragement and deliverance purposefully—not only to deliver myself, but also to share with the world."

Great song, Ali. Learning to love those days can be a tough lesson, but it definitely does more for us than complaining about them does. I know I've learned to be a lot more thankful for each day He gives me, and I hope I continue getting better at it. ;)

Heh.
I actually downloaded this song on accident looking for a far more depressing song.

But it would come on randomly when I would listen to music. I eventually heard it so much I knew the words.

She does this too, which I'm currently attached at the hip with:

But I AM trying.

I really hit a wall about a month ago and started coloring Mandalas as a form of..
Something?

It came to me that since I lost my children, I've been an extremely closed off person. I'm so particular about who and what I let in because of past pain. It seemed to me in a minute of lucidity that I was especially unfair to Christians. And that really is against vows I took as a practicing Buddhist.

Anyhow..

I'm not a Christian. And I have a beef (still) with those who oppress in the name of Christ. But I need as much positivity as I can ferret out.
I suppose if I had to put it in religious terms..I'd say I'm up against highly dark and depressing forces.
But as dark as it gets, the potential for the light to shine out is just as much if not more.
It's only there if that's where I put my focus.

Ephesians 6:10-18
New International Version (NIV)

The Armor of God

10 Finally, be strong in the Lord and in his mighty power. 11 Put on the full armor of God, so that you can take your stand against the devil’s schemes. 12 For our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the powers of this dark world and against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly realms. 13 Therefore put on the full armor of God, so that when the day of evil comes, you may be able to stand your ground, and after you have done everything, to stand. 14 Stand firm then, with the belt of truth buckled around your waist, with the breastplate of righteousness in place, 15 and with your feet fitted with the readiness that comes from the gospel of peace. 16 In addition to all this, take up the shield of faith, with which you can extinguish all the flaming arrows of the evil one. 17 Take the helmet of salvation and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God.

:)

This is a great song, too. :D

Keep hanging in there, babe. It sounds like that light is starting to make its way through and that your trying is working. Those dark, depressing forces are strong, but the light is stronger. Just do whatever you can to keep a positive focus, and let the light share its strength with you. Sounds like life is improving for you, and I hope it continues to do so. :freehug:

TRANSLATION: The Kingdom of Heaven is the reward of the believer (2X). Don't let me miss the Way, Father, get me Home (2X). The money i have, cannot get me Home. The car i bought, cannot drive me Home. The friend i have, cannot escort me Home. All the books i have been able to read, they cannot carry me Home. Don't let me faint on the Way, Father, get me Home. That i don't die on the journey like smoke. Get me Home. The world is a market. Heaven is Home. Get me Home (2X).
