China Says First Aircraft Carrier Entering Service

    http://stage.military.com/daily-new...tering-service.html?comp=7000023435700&rank=2

BEIJING - China formally entered its first aircraft carrier into service on Tuesday, underscoring its ambitions to be a leading Asian naval power, although the ship is not expected to carry a full complement of planes or be ready for combat for some time.

The Defense Ministry's announcement had been long expected and was not directly linked to current tensions with Japan over a disputed group of uninhabited islands in the East China Sea.

In a brief notice on its website, the ministry said the carrier's commissioning significantly boosted the navy's combat capabilities and its ability to cooperate in responding to natural disasters and other non-traditional threats.

"It has important significance in effectively safeguarding national sovereignty, security, and development benefits, and advancing world peace and common development," the statement said.

China had partly justified the launching of a carrier by pointing out that it alone among the five permanent United Nations Security Council members had no such craft. That had been particularly glaring given the constant presence in Asia of carriers operated by the U.S. Navy, which maintains 11 worldwide.

President Hu Jintao, also chairman of the commission that controls the military, presided over a ceremony Tuesday morning at the ship's home port of Dalian, along with Premier Wen Jiabao and top generals. Hu "fully affirmed" the efforts of those working on the ship and called on them to complete all remaining tasks according to the highest standard, the Defense Ministry said.

The carrier is the former Soviet navy's unfinished Varyag, which was towed from Ukraine in 1998 minus its engines, weaponry and navigation systems. Christened the Liaoning after the northeastern province surrounding Dalian, the ship began sea trials in August 2011 following years of refurbishment.

So far the trial runs of the aircraft carrier have been to test the ship's propulsion, communications and navigation systems. But launching and recovering fixed-wing aircraft at sea is a much trickier proposition. It will take years to build the proper aircraft, to train pilots to land in adverse weather on a moving deck, and to develop a proper carrier battle group.
China is developing a carrier-based fighter-bomber, the J-15, derived from Russia's Sukhoi Su-33, along with a prototype stealth carrier fighter, the J-31.

Beijing hasn't said what role it intends the carrier to fill other than helping safeguard China's coastline and sea links. The Liaoning has also been portrayed as a kind of test platform for the future development of up to five domestically built Chinese carriers.

Writing in Tuesday's China Daily newspaper, retired Rear Adm. Yang Yi said the carrier will be used to master the technology for more advanced carriers. He said it also will be used to train in how to operate such a craft in a battle group and with vessels from other nation's navies.

Without specifically mentioning China's territorial disputes, Yang acknowledged other countries' concerns about its growing military might, but said Beijing wouldn't shy from flexing its muscles.

"When China has a more balanced and powerful navy, the regional situation will be more stable as various forces that threaten regional peace will no longer dare to act rashly," Yang wrote.

Whatever its practical effects on China's global status, the carrier embodies huge symbolism for China's political and military leaders as a totem of their country's rise from weakness to strength, according to Andrew S. Erickson, a China naval specialist at the U.S. Naval War College.
"While (Chinese navy) acceptance of this `starter carrier' is the first step in a long journey, it is a journey that will take place in full view of the world, and one that will ultimately take Beijing to a new place as a great sea power," Erickson wrote on his blog.

The carrier's political importance was highlighted in Wen's remarks to the ceremony, in which he said it would "arouse national pride and patriotic passion."

"This has mighty and deep significance for the opening of a new facet in our enterprise of socialism with Chinese characteristics," he said.

Ghost cities they built in Mainland China.
Now these sneaky mofos are building them in Africa.
Won't be long before they build them

The chinese influence in the Panama Canal gets very little attention. The time will come when they will be in a position to checkmate the United States. The chinese sees the United States as a paper tiger.

Any truth to the dirty little secret that China has long term plans to populate africa to spread it's population into mineral rich countries throughout Africa as civil wars, AIDS etc.. de-populate black africans, hence the ghost cities. I know we live in a political correct time and we cannot speak on such a thing. But is there a grain of truth here? We know for a fact the Western World ignores the plight of black africans as Ben Affleck spoke on three million black congolese have died in the past few years, yet not a damned thing was done. Let this shit happen in Europe and you would have had thousands of airlifts and aid to stop the wars. Let the wars and AIDS kill off the black africans, so the land can be taken.

Africa is the new 'New World'

as others have said, Africa is a very resource-rich continent. people have been invading and raising colonies in there, from the French to the Persians. I mean shit, look how apartheid worked, where a white minority ended up dictating what went down. how the FUCK does that happen? look at the diamond companies and shit...where do you think they get their stones from?

do your history and look at who the Rhodes Scholarship is named after. Shit's fucking criminal....and people aspire to have a reward in his name. Get the fuck out. Africans there are no better than the fucking Native Americans. Look how that worked out. Strangers in their own fucking home.

China uses its large-scale infrastructure projects in African nations for several ends: 1) to secure access to resources and markets; 2) as diplomacy tools; and 3) to export their chronic unemployment problems - as many of these projects have large Chinese labor forces brought in to build them, with only minimal amounts of unskilled African labor used and very little value-added or skills development opportunities available for domestic labor forces.

I got a strange feeling that the USA and other western nations are in on what China is doing.

Its kinda like China is doing their dirty work.

If you know who the permanent members of the UN Security Council are, then you might understand what might be going on.

Do you really think China is doing dirty work for the West?
Its doing these ventures in Africa to gain resources. And many Africans dont care. as long as it isnt the former colonial powers.

China Lands First Jet on Its Aircraft Carrier

    http://www.military.com/daily-news/...t-jet-on-its-aircraft-carrier.html?ESRC=eb.nl

BEIJING -- China has successfully landed a fighter jet on its first aircraft carrier, which entered service two months ago, the country's official news agency confirmed Sunday.

The Liaoning aircraft carrier underscores China's ambitions to be a leading Asian naval power, but it is not expected to carry a full complement of planes or be ready for combat for some time.

Xinhua News Agency said the landing exercise marked the debut of the J-15 fighter jet, a carrier-based fighter-bomber developed by China from Russia's Sukhoi Su-33.

The Defense Ministry's website carried photos of the jet taking off from and landing on the carrier.

Citing unnamed naval sources, Xinhua said that the carrier platform and J-15 capabilities met all requirements and achieved "good compatibility."
Xinhua says the J-15 is able to carry anti-ship, air-to-air and air-to-ground missiles and precision-guided bombs.

Since China's Liaoning ship formally entered into service on Sept. 25, its crew members have completed more than 100 training and test programs, Xinhua said.

China bought the former Soviet navy's unfinished carrier from Ukraine in 1998 and spent years refurbishing it.

Aren't the bulk of their electrical and weapons systems shoddy reverse-engineered knock-offs of US and old Soviet technology?

most likely since the soviets were probably sharing tech

mind you soviet engineering was never considered to be on the same level as ours

you definitely don't get the same level of refinement

It's no secret that China's weapon technology is sub-par against the USA.

But it has been proven that technology does not win wars.

1 - WW2 - The German and Japanese war machines were years ahead of what the USA could produce at the time. The USA had to make a decision on how to defeat both the Axis powers. Choice one was invest in technological weapons that were equal or better. Choice two was to not go for quality, but go for quantity.

The US/Allies invested their resources in building massive amounts of low quality instruments of war (tanks, jeeps, submarines, carriers, destroyers, amphibious landing craft, merchant ships).

Hitler himself stated that he could not compete against US industrial output at the time and tried to make plans to destroy American manufacturing. Japan tried to do the same thing but failed.

China today has a major and massive industrial complex on their mainland. They could probably easily produce 10 or 20 cheap aircraft carriers in one year, while it takes the USA 5 years to produce one Nimitz style carrier. The new Gerald Ford Class being built is already behind schedule and burdened with cost overruns.

The US has the capability of creating a massive war machine industrial complex, but it will take years to train mofos and build and reopen existing factories.

2 - VietNam - The North Vietnamese Army/Air Force basically put a whoop ass on the USA for 10 years. The Vietnam Air Force (with help from China) was kicking the USA ass so bad, it led to the creation of NAVY's "Top Gun" and Air Force "Fighter Weapons School"

And the VietCong took guerilla warfare to ultimate levels. Easily put a kick ass on US Ground Forces mentally and physically.

3 - Iraq - You disband a military, and allow them access to their old military equipment. Thus creating a insurgency that rivals the VietCong. Mofos put a ass whooping on US forces building cheap bombs buried in roads, buildings and other places that could be activated with a cheap analog cell phone.

4 - Afghanistan - These ignorant mofos kicked the Soviet war machines butt in 10 years with limited US aide, and doing the same shit 20 years later to the US with Russia aid. Mofos are whoopping the USA's butt with outdated AK-47's and piece of shit leftover blackmarket Russian made RPG's.

Apple Manufacturer Foxconn To Open TV Factory In US?

    http://www.macworld.com.au/news/apple-manufacturer-foxconn-to-open-tv-factory-in-us-79120/

Apple manufacturer Foxconn could be planning to open factories in the US, according to new reports.

DigiTimes reports that Foxconn is “currently conducting evaluations in cities such as Detroit and Los Angeles, according to market watchers”.

These market watchers believe that Foxconn’s plants in the US could be for LCD TV production, because, in China, Apple’s current products are largely put together by workers, whereas TV sets are easier to assemble using robots. This would prove much cheaper for Foxconn, because American workers would be unlikely to work for wages as small as those given to factory workers in China.

It has been rumoured that Apple is planning to introduce a smart television set of its own.

Foxconn CEO Terry Gou recently said that the company was planning a training program for US-based engineers, which would involve flying them over to Taiwan or China for hands-on experience of what the production design and manufacturing processes are like in the Asian factories. This training would be helpful for the engineers when they return to the US, Gou said.

Foxconn has been under fire this year after being accused of mistreating employees, which resulted in a Fair Labor Association investigation and Gou promising to double workers’ wages by the end of 2013. It is thought that Apple may have helped Foxconn pay for wage increases for its workers in September.

Security Firm Alleges Hacking by Chinese Military

    http://www.military.com/daily-news/...s-hacking-by-chinese-military.html?ESRC=eb.nl

BEIJING - Cyberattacks that stole massive amounts of information from military contractors, energy companies and other key industries in the U.S. and elsewhere have been traced to the doorstep of a Chinese military unit, a U.S. security firm alleged Tuesday.

China's Foreign Ministry dismissed the report as "groundless," and the Defense Ministry denied any involvement in hacking attacks.

China has frequently been accused of hacking, but the report by Virginia-based Mandiant Corp. contains some of the most extensive and detailed accusations to date linking its military to a wave of cyberspying against U.S. and other foreign companies and government agencies.

Mandiant said it traced the hacking back to a neighborhood in the outskirts of Shanghai that includes a drab, white 12-story office building run by "Unit 61398" of the People's Liberation Army.

The unit "has systematically stolen hundreds of terabytes of data from at least 141 organizations," Mandiant wrote. By comparison, the U.S. Library of Congress 2006-2010 Twitter archive of about 170 billion tweets totals 133.2 terabytes.

"From our observations, it is one of the most prolific cyberespionage groups in terms of the sheer quantity of information stolen," the company said. It added that the unit has been in operation since at least 2006.
Mandiant said it decided that revealing the results of its investigation was worth the risk of the hackers changing their tactics and becoming even more difficult to trace.

"It is time to acknowledge the threat is originating in China, and we wanted to do our part to arm and prepare security professionals to combat that threat effectively," it said.

In a statement faxed to The Associated Press, the Defense Ministry firmly rejected any involvement in hacking, saying Chinese law forbids all activities harming Internet security.

"The Chinese government has always firmly combated such activities and the Chinese military has never supported any form of hacking activity," the ministry said. "Statements to the effect that the Chinese military takes part in Internet attacks are unprofessional and are not in accordance with the facts."

Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesman Hong Lei did not directly address the claims, but when questioned on the report Tuesday, he said he doubted the evidence would withstand scrutiny.

"To make groundless accusations based on some rough material is neither responsible nor professional," Hong told reporters at a regularly scheduled news conference.

Reiterating a standard China government response on hacking claims, Hong said China itself is a major victim of such crimes, including attacks originating in the United States.

"As of now, the cyberattacks and cybercrimes China has suffered are rising rapidly every year," Hong said.

Mandiant's methodology used in the investigation was sound, said Massimo Cotrozzi, managing director of KCS Group, a London-based international cyber investigation consulting firm that was not involved in Mandiant's research.

"No one as yet has provided the world conclusive evidence of a link between the Chinese military and the attacks. This report is the nearest thing to conclusive evidence that I have seen," Cotrozzi said.

Mandiant said its findings led it to alter the conclusion of a 2010 report it wrote on Chinese hacking, in which it said it was not possible to determine the extent of government knowledge of such activities.

"The details we have analyzed during hundreds of investigations convince us that the groups conducting these activities are based primarily in China and that the Chinese government is aware of them," the company said in a summary of its latest report.

It said the hacking was traced to the 2nd Bureau of the People's Liberation Army General Staff's 3rd Department, most commonly known as unit 61398, in the Shanghai suburbs.

News of the report spread Tuesday on the Chinese Internet, with many commentators calling it an excuse for the U.S. to impose greater restrictions to contain China's growing technological prowess.

Graham Cluley, a British cybersecurity expert who was not involved in Mandiant's research, said people in the computer industry believe China's government is behind such attacks but have been unable to confirm the source.

"None of us would be very surprised or be uncomfortable saying we strongly suspect the Chinese authorities are involved in spying this way," said Cluley, a senior technology consultant for security firm Sophos in Britain.

"I think we are seeing a steady escalation" of sophistication in hacking, Cluley said. "This is really the new era of cybercrime. We've moved from kids in their bedroom and financially motivated crime to state-sponsored cybercrime, which is interested in stealing secrets and getting military or commercial advantage."

Martial arts super star Jackie Chan is very patriotic when it comes to China. He even believes that the US is corrupt(ironically, he enjoyed the fame here with the films he made here and elsewhere). He made these statements in China, of course. I still like him, though.

China's aircraft carrier is impressive, but it cannot raise a candle to the US Navy's Nimitz class carriers(still)the largest in the world. Japan has a very capable navy, even if it is conventional and non-nuclear. EMP is a real concern. More frightening than nuclear, biological and chemical attacks. The sudden shutdown of electricity would weaken a country. GoldenEye is a reality. Such weaponry will make it easy for an enemy to invade a country.
