Well K, Bliss is not too far off there, one of the only things both sides agreed upon was that the cost of the uninsured, and could not pay, going to emergency rooms for medical care was one of the main causes for the skyrocketing increases in medical care costs for all of us taxpayers. That was the main reason why the ACA made healthcare mandatory or a pay a fine. Of course there are still uninsured people, but that was the idea behind it.

    Huh??
There's NINE district medical office health centers in Philly alone. Included at them is a blood lab facility, a dentist office, a pharmacy that fills prescriptions on the spot, AND a podiatrist!

The Philadelphia Department of Public Health operates 9 City health centers that provide high-quality medical care to Philadelphia residents. Our health centers are located in neighborhoods all across Philadelphia.

The idea that there were "always" clinics available for preventative and maintenance care in every city (and that we have always paid for preventative and maintenace care)is just no true though. Not to mention that even now there are not enough to handle the demand.

I'd rather it come from our insanely bloated military budget that takes up over 50% of our budget. The money we are so willing to spend on wars could have easily fixed our education and healthcare issues but it seems like that always get overlooked and some would rather focus on the minute expense spent of welfare and foreign aide.

    Agreed.

Unfortunately, that's just not how our govt does things.

But it's not just the government its also the people complaining about paying for shit that should be a universal right. Of all the things your government pays for you're going to complain about subsidies on education and healthcare?
Healthcare should not be seen as a consumable good since its not a choice to be healthy or unhealthy.
People are so damn weird and brainwashed.

Or take the money spent on housing, educating and healthcare used up by the illegal immigrants. Lots of bloat abounds.

That's literally a drop in the bucket in comparison to corporate welfare and over bloated military spending. Enough of the kick poor and vulnerable people especially when they really aren't part of the problem that's holding us all back. It's so weird that I never see the same passion and disgust for allowing certain corporations and wealthy people to pay no taxes and in many cases receive a damn refund. They cost us 10 times as much but get near no back lash for it. Instead we focus on poor and desperate people getting shitty homes and cheap food to eat.

Actually the more accurate meme would be he only thinks whites are rich and that no whites are poor.
I think this was taken out of context because from what I remember this was in reference to police brutality where cops are more likely to police black and brown areas than white ones.

It was to a degree. He was asked, what was his racial blind spot.
He continued on to say White people don't know what it's like to be targeted in the street and to be pulled from your car, which actually is not true.
Regardless, even if he wants to claim that that is a Black experience and not a White one as well, he should have stopped there, because when it comes to being poor, there are more poor white people in this country than there are poor black people. Sheer bottom line.
Therefore, White people indeed know what it's like to be poor and to live in poor areas.

The problem with that argument is that the amount of money this country spends on housing, education, and healthcare for everyone living here, documented or not, is a drip in the bucket compared to what we spend on the military.

We spend more on our military than the next six countries combined, which is absolutely ridiculous: [IMG]

Hell, we spend more on the military than everything else combined:

Trying to save money by cutting spending in other areas while ignoring our nation's extremely bloated defense budget is a complete nonstarter and makes less than no sense. It's like trying to save money by sewing up the holes in your socks while you spend money at five-star restaurants for breakfast, lunch, and dinner.

Great minds think alike, apparently. But you're completely correct though. Shit, we could our defense budget in half and still spend more on our military than any other country in the world.

Compared to the near $600 billion we annually spend on the military, we could probably spend a fraction of that on cradle-to-the-grave healthcare for every man, woman, and child in this country and be better off as a nation because of it.

Well you know what its really about though, not saying Bliss thinks this but most people with her argument plain and simple hate the idea of anyone black or brown getting anything for free. No other argument makes sense unless they just have complete tunnel vision and don't want to look at other places where the money goes.

Our military budget IS astronomical.. but also take from there and there and there. When you budget, you tackle all spending and not just one place. We need to defend our country and it's not cheap. So if taking the many millions otherwise used towards illegals translates to you or l not having to pay a deductible or premium, why wouldn't a Govt do that for its people?

Yeah, no l definitely don't think that (l think descendants of slaves deserve reparations).
but the European and Chinese and Russians illegals here in the NE (to name a few) are rampant line jumpers.

    Again..budget everywhere.

That's exactly it. A lot of people would cut off their noses to spite their faces if it means that "those people" won't be getting handouts. Will they suffer, too? They damn sure will, but none of that matters to people who think that way.

Defending our country isn't cheap but when we spend more than the next six nations combined? That is a problem and it is one that needs to be fixed. Yeah, we can keep cutting unemployment benefits and WIC vouchers and education and health care, but that's skating around the massively overfunded elephant in the room.

Cutting a few millions from that already meager amount of spending and moving it somewhere else isn't going to fix any real problems. But when we spend more on the military than everything else combined then that is most logical place to start when it comes to making spending cuts. You start with the biggest problem first and work your way down to the smaller ones.

Because, the humane thing to do is to cut the bloat from the unneeded or redundant military programs, close tax loopholes on huge corporations and cut corporate welfare first before you cut programs that help needy people. Regardless of their citizenship.

Funny how you interpret suggestions of taking money from the countries we supplement and money from services illegals are given...to taking money from UB and WIC. Not to mention you'd rather just cut the Military Budget.

Its not a few million as you implied, so the many millions redirecting the funds l mentioned again can be the difference between meeting a deductible AND paying your mortgage for many American citizens. Baby steps turn into giant steps.
