Sexual Harassment/Assault Scandals

Fox Business Network host Charles Payne has been suspended while 21st Century Fox investigates sexual harassment allegations made against him, the company confirmed Wednesday night.

Payne’s suspension was announced by Fox Business Network following his program “Making Money,” and shortly after the Los Angeles Times first reported the investigation.

“We take issues of this nature extremely seriously and have a zero-tolerance policy for any professional misconduct,” a Fox Business Network representative said in a statement. “This matter is being thoroughly investigated and we are taking all of the appropriate steps to reach a resolution in a timely manner.”

Payne, who hosts “Making Money” on the network and appears on various other programs, has acknowledged what he described as a three-year “romantic relationship” with a married female political analyst who frequently appeared on Fox Business Network and Fox News Channel from 2013 to 2016. Payne admitted to the extramarital affair in a statement to the National Enquirer published Wednesday that included an apology to his wife, children and friends.

That relationship is now being reviewed after the woman contacted Fox’s law firm Paul, Weiss, Rifkind, Wharton & Garrison last month to report her allegations of sexual misconduct. The woman, who worked for CNN last year, had a representative tell the firm she believed she was eventually blackballed from the network after she ended the affair in 2015 and tried to report Payne to top executives at Fox News, according to two sources familiar with her complaint.

The Los Angeles Times is not naming the woman because she alleges that she was coerced into a sexual relationship with Payne under threat of reprisals.

Neal Korval, an attorney representing Payne, said the anchor “categorically denies” having committed any acts of sexual harassment against the woman. Korval said Payne will respond to the woman’s allegations in court if a complaint is served.

The woman was never an employee of Fox News, but appeared as a guest across numerous Fox News and Fox Business Network programs with the hope of becoming a paid contributor. She has told her lawyer, who is preparing a legal complaint against Fox News and Payne, that she stayed in the relationship because she believed he would help her chances of landing a position at the network, according to the sources.

Instead, the woman is alleging, after she ended the affair her appearances were drastically reduced, the sources say.

Payne, 56, has worked at Fox Business Network since it launched in 2006. Payne, who is also a Wall Street financial analyst, recently signed a new contract with the business channel which has seen significant ratings growth over the past two years.

According to the sources, the woman told her lawyer that between March 2015 and March 2016 she made several unsuccessful attempts to discuss her situation with Payne with former Fox News executive Bill Shine, who was head of programming at the time. Shine left Fox News on May 1.

The allegations are the latest to hit 21st Century Fox, which has been plagued by sexual harassment charges across several units over the last year. Former Fox News anchor Gretchen Carlson filed suit last year against the network's former chief executive, Roger Ailes. Since then, several other women have come forward with allegations against Ailes and other significant figures.

Tamara Holder, a former Fox News contributor, received a settlement from the company after alleging she was sexually assaulted by an executive, Francisco Cortes, who oversaw the network’s Spanish language operation. Holder never reported the incident to legal authorities, but Cortes was fired.

The network’s star anchor, Bill O’Reilly, was pushed out in April after reports that he and Fox had paid out millions to settle harassment claims going back to 2004. Los Angeles radio personality Wendy Walsh alleged that O’Reilly promised her a position on his highly rated show, “The O’Reilly Factor,” if she would have sex with him.

On Monday, Jamie Horowitz, a top executive at Fox Sports was fired amid harassment complaints.

Payne’s suspension came on the one-year anniversary of Carlson’s lawsuit. On Thursday, she tweeted, “A year ago tdy I jumped off a cliff w/o knowing what was below. Thx to all who supported me & even 2 those who didn't. #BeFierce #SpeakUp.”

Debra Katz, an employment attorney in Washington who specializes in sexual harassment cases, said the continued claims against 21st Century Fox show the company still has work to do despite numerous steps to improve its work environment since the departure of Ailes.

“It seems the atmosphere was so poisoned with sexual harassment that if you lift any rock you’re going to be able to find more,” Katz said.

Katz added that she believes the company will continue to aggressively address the matter — especially because 21st Century Fox wants to complete its acquisition of European pay TV giant Sky. The company is still waiting for British regulators to approve the $15-billion transaction.

“It’s going to be a long road, but as long as Fox wants the Sky deal to go through they are going to make every effort to deal with these issues head on,” Katz said.

TLDR version: Fox Business host Charles Payne had an affair with Former CNN Commentator Scottie Nell Hughes for 3 years & she's now accusing him of sexual harassment.

What is going on at FOX News? He's gotta be like at least the 5th or 6th person to be accused of sex harassment in the last couple years.

Charles Payne, host of Fox Business's Making Money, has lashed out at former contributor Scottie Nell Hughes for accusing him of sexual harassment.

Payne, who was suspended when the one-time CNN and Fox pundit alleged that he had coerced her into a three-year affair, dismissed her on Twitter.

He said that he had been approached for a quote about the allegations last week by an unnamed reporter who then didn't use his comment.

Payne tweeted that he told the reporter: 'That is an ugly lie I vehemently deny to my core. There is a mountain of proof that also proves its a lie.'

The Fox host also said he 'will fight this like a lion armed with truth. Thanks so much to all those that have reached out in support. #FightingBack.'

This week it emerged that Payne, who has a wife, had been accused of having a three-year affair with the married political analyst.

On Wednesday Payne admitted to the affair and apologized to his family. However, he denied the claims made against him by Hughes that he had threatened her with 'reprisals' if she didn't have an affair with him.

Their relationship was well-known within Fox News circles, ten sources told the Huffington Post.

Hughes is best known for her pro-Trump appearances on CNN during last year, when she made a string of gaffes, including referring to Molotov cocktails as 'Mazel Tov cocktails'.

But she also worked as an unpaid guest commentator on Fox from 2013-2016 - during which time she struck up an affair with the married father, according to the Los Angeles Times.

R8at5nH.jpg

Hughes and her husband, Chris (both pictured), have two children. She reportedly hoped her relationship with Payne would get her a permanent place on Fox

They barely hid their illicit encounters, apparently sharing a hotel room at a May 2015 company trip to the Money Show in Las Vegas, sources told The Huffington Post.

Payne, who was hosting Making Money With Charles Payne at the event, disappeared with Hughes for 'hours' at one point, the sources claimed.

And Hughes, who is also married, attended Payne's birthday party at his home in 2015, where the pair's behavior reportedly made Payne's wife uncomfortable.

Hughes now claims that she was coerced into the relationship with threats of reprisals.

But she also told her lawyer that she had stayed in the relationship because she thought he would help her land a permanent position at the network, sources told the Times.

Hughes tried to talk about the situation with former head of programming Bill Shine, who left Fox News this May - but to no avail, her lawyer says.

She eventually reported the affair to Fox's law firm Paul, Weiss, Rifkind, Wharton & Garrison, when it ended in 2015, telling them of the threats she had allegedly received.

She says that led to her being blackballed from the show.

Sources say Hughest (not pictured) was blackballed after Payne's (center) wife saw them together at his birthday party and told ex-Fox exec Bill Shine of her concerns

But according to the Huffintgon Post, the channel stopped bringing her in after Payne's wife - upset by the pair's behavior at his birthday party - told Shine.

He then barred her from appearing on Fox News or Fox Business, multiple insiders said, despite her vehement support for Trump making her an ideal fit for the channels.

Hughes' lawyer is now preparing a legal complaint against Fox News and Payne.

Payne, a married father, acknowledged to the extramarital affair on Wednesday.

'I would like to extend an apology to my family and friends for having been involved in a romantic affair that ended two years ago,' he said in a statement to the National Enquirer.

However, Payne's s lawyer told the Los Angeles Times that his client 'categorically denies' any acts of sexual harassment against Hughes.

Fox Business recently renewed Payne's contract.

A spokesman for the channel said that the company takes 'issues of this nature extremely seriously and have a zero-tolerance policy for any professional misconduct.'

He added: 'This matter is being thoroughly investigated and we are taking all of the appropriate steps to reach a resolution in a timely manner.'

As well as departing Fox, Hughes was dropped from CNN in part due to her on-air slips.

eb8a77J.jpg

Hughes claims Fox stopped hiring her not because of Payne's wife's complaints, but because of a vendetta after she reported the affair and alleged harassment to their lawyers

She is now national spokesman for the pro-Trump PAC The Committee To Defend The President.

The accusations are the latest in a series of allegations of sexual misconduct at Fox.

Popular right-wing host Billy O’Reilly found out he was fired from the network in April, while on vacation in Italy, after an African-American woman accused him of sexual harassment.

She said he would call her 'hot chocolate' when he walked by during the day, and would grunt at her 'like a wild boar'.

O'Reilly denies all the claims against him.

Ex-Fox News Latino Vice President Francisco Cortes and 21st Century Fox settled sexual assault allegations against him by political commentator, Tamara Holder.

But the biggest departure came last year when former boss Roger Ailes was forced to resign amid a flurry of sexual misconduct allegations.

He left Fox with a $60 million payout.

LOL. DAYUM!!!

I hope this Hughes chick gets slapped down, but Payne brought this drama on himself. You don't have affairs with women where you work because if it blows up, so does your career.

I wonder how Fox is going to handle this. I'm assuming he gets fired.lol

This whole thing sounds like some woman scorned revenge bullshit.

However, I got zero sympathy for this motherfucker or any of the rest of the clowns who take money to appear on that racist propaganda outlet.

ETA I also have no sympathy because he should have known to steer clear just from looking at that broad. She has crazy eyes.

Agreed! I have no sympathy for either. As expected, Payne lied and denied until the ravages of reality and documented facts prevailed. It seems to be woven into the FOX culture, sexual harassment, and bullying.

Damn, this broad came to Payne's birthday party at his house and their conduct "made his wife uncomfortable." Brazen blonde hussy!!!!!

@andreboba is right, you don't shit where you eat. Brother should have known better

Making Money host Charles Payne (left) has been suspended after an allegation of sexual harassment made by married analyst Scottie Nell Hughes (right), who had an affair with him

The Fox Business host (pictured with his wife) a married father, as admitted to the affair, but denies claims that he coerced Hughes into the relationship with threats of reprisals

On Friday Payne made a series of tweets in which he refuted the claims made by Hughes

He claimed they were an 'ugly lie' and said he had a 'mountain of proof' to back him up

He promised to 'fight this like a lion armed with the truth'

Hughes is best known for her pro-Trump appearances on CNN during last year, when she made a string of gaffes, including referring to Molotov cocktails as 'Mazel Tov cocktails'.

But she also worked as an unpaid guest commentator on Fox from 2013-2016 - during which time she struck up an affair with the married father, according to the Los Angeles Times.

Yes,that Ruckus has it coming. I read he will be "suspended" which no doubt he will be out the door like O'Reilly.
