That makes me think of this black dude I used to work with. He said our work place was racist because we used white trash bags instead of black ones. Then said the place was racist because we were only allowed to wear black shoes and not white ones. If that is stereotypical, then the other chicken nugget commercial with the two white people must be racist.
WTF?! Seriously, OMG black people eating chicken nuggets!! Let's call the BBB and sue them for racism!!!!
Yea, I'm just freakin' grouchy because I haven't slept since Sat after I woke up at 8pm. And coming from my own "race" thread. This shit is pissing me off. Mofos need to stop being so gotdamn "ate up". Grrr!!!!!!!
Stereotypical, not racist... and not because of the chicken nuggets. I've just never been fond of McDonalds marketing to the black community. From 'ooooh wee, Calvin got a job' to 'come here baby and let Grandma make you some iced tea'. Not a big deal, I understand the way marketing works. I've just never been a fan of their marketing campaign.
I'm going to give ya'll some words of wisdom: "Why is there prejudice?" "It is often felt that there are those who do not like certain characteristics about other Beings, so in their dislike of those characteristics they are responsible for the prejudice. We want to point out that it is not only the doing of the one who is accused of being prejudiced. More often, the one who feels discriminated against is the most powerfrul creator of that experience. The Being who feels that others do not like him--for whatever reason--whether it is religion, race, gender, or social status... no matter what the reason is that he feels that he is being discriminated against--it is his attention to the subject of the prejudice that attracts his trouble."
Fair enough, however stereotyping and discrimination are not necessarily synonymous. This is more of a matter of McDonalds identifying a target demographic and running an advertising campaign focused on that demographic that some find stereotypes. Nobody's yelling racism or discrimination. At least I haven't felt discriminated against when purchasing a double QPC w/ cheese. Again, not a big deal.
I'm studying advertising/pr/marketing right now, it seems every company is like this basically. It's all about the target audience.
Sorry, I'm kind of worked up. I'm glad it's not a big deal for you. I just get really pissed off at people who are stupid like that guy I was talking about with the shoes and trash bags and those girls I was talking about in my "ladies" thread. People who have to make everything stereotypical, racist, discriminant, prejudice, etc. And I don't even think I've ever seen those two McDonald's commercials. :smt102
Everyone trying to sell something is absolutely like that. Be it Britney Spears, prostitutes, fortune 500's, Disney Channel or Churches Chicken. It's rare that something is a big deal to me... I have a very easy going personality.... I think. But yeah, I know what you're saying. There are certainly people who go overboard with the 'world is against me' racism mentality.
