    Un-patriotism at it's finest.
These folks should be labeled as "unrepentant terrorists".:smt043

I heard a lot people express this sentiment when I lived in Texas while Clinton was in office. Strangely enough, most of the neo-secessionists stopped yapping about it when Bush took office in 2001.

I say let them go if they want independence so badly. Just let the federal government pack up all of our equipment at Fort Hood, Fort Bliss, Fort Sam Houston, Camp Bowie, the Naval Air Station at Corpus Christie and all of the other military installations in the state and everything at the Johnson Space Center in Houston. Since Texas, like many other states in the South, receives more federal funding and aid than they contribute to the government coffers in taxes, the burden on the rest of us would be eased.

Seriously though, if Texas left the union, the new Republic would most likely end up being an oligarchic kleptocracy controlled tightly by the billionaires in Dallas, Houston and Austin. I imagine that the standard of living for the majority of people would drop to third world levels within a few years. The state already ranks dead last or close to it in the quality of public education, high school graduation rates, health care, infant mortality ect.

If they hate the US so much, I say good riddance.

How are people who don't like high taxes "unpatriotic?" Talk of secession is overboard, with that I agree, but unpatriotic for displaying displeasure with bailouts and high taxes?

95% of Americans are getting a TAX CUT under the current stimulus plan. Only the people in the highest marginal bracket are having their taxes increased, and that "tax increase" will simply be a return to the same rate on the highest bracket that we had under Clinton (which by the way is still ten percent LOWER than it was under Saint Reagan and H.W. Bush). Most of the people who are out in the street protesting aren't being affected negatively at all by Obama's policies (as if he's even been in office long enough to cause serious problems.) Their actions are a pavlovian response to all of the inane hate mongering from the likes of Rush Limbaugh, Michael Savage and the entirety of Fox News which was almost single-handedly responsible for promoting and organizing those bullshit protests on Wednesday.

If these people were real patriots, they would have taken to the streets screaming and threatening secession years ago when we were being plunged into this mess with the massive outsourcing of jobs, union busting, stagnant wages, the disappearance of pensions, the removal of regulations on the financial industry, Bush's ridiculous deficit spending and the disastrous invasion of Iraq instead of misdirecting their anger and vitriol at the people who are trying their damnedest to get the country back on track.

Anytime a state or a group of people would even consider seceding from the union is unpatriotism at it's highest level.

I disagree. It means they're fed up with Washington and they want change.. If they wish to succeed, that should be up to the people in Texas or any other state, and the feds should back off

Well as was pointed out before, the Feds should pull their funding of the state and get the fuck out. Texas would be a state-wide meth lab and trailer park within six months.

How could secceeding not be unpatriotic? It's practically the very definition.
