This is the main problem that I have with american politics. Instead of these people that are voted into office offering real solutions to problems they offer up rhetoric which does nothing but further aggravate the problems we face today. As well as further divide the country along stupid political lines.

Then you have these clearly bias news networks, pundits, and media hosts that claim to inform the people. Inform them of what exactly? Their own slanted views yes, the absolute truth hell no. In truth they do nothing more than further their own agendas.

People just swallow all this stuff up without any hesitation or reservation. People should start learning and thinking for themselves again instead of listening to entities that dont have a clue about what the hell is really happening in the world, nor really care anything about them. I am not just talking about right wingers or left wingers, I am talking about everyone.

As for succession Gov. Perry and all the people that support the idea should first open up a history book, because this succession thing was tried 148 years ago and it didnt turn out too well for the successionists.

That's true. I spend a hour to research on succession, I noticed that lots of people really want to free from american politics in their states, not that I don't have problem with it. Gov. Perry and people should looking carefully to observe succession in history book that occurred more than 148 years ago.

To me, it's time that people of texas do what they really want to do with their own government and be free. Believe it or not, why, I never thought that I would heard myself saying this, but I support the idea of succession. So letting them go is the best thing that could happening to them. We will have to see what go from here in the near future.

As a proud Texas native...it is kind of embarassing to watch the debacle that is occuring here. The state has a large contingent of people in small towns that are going to be Republican until they die...and these are the same folks that were Democrats...or should I say Dixiecrats through the LBJ administration.

We can not actually secede from the Union contrary to the lies that have been spread by neo-con right wingers. Texas can however (unique to this state I think) split itself into as many as 4 or 5 states if it so chooses...but it can not secede from the Union...as far as I know anyway.

Demographically, the state is moving closer to becoming a split down the middle...the only thing holding us back is the lower voter turnout among blacks in small towns and Hispanics in various areas...plus the fact that white voters in Texas vote Republican with little thought as to why they are doing so. I will say that the big cities (San Antonio, Houston, El Paso, Dallas etc.) are fairly liberal. Austin is the most liberal of the big cities by far but voting patterns suggest Dallas is right there (about a 60-40 split in favor of Obama on election night...something like that).

Gov. Perry is trying to position himself against Kay Bailey Hutchinson for the gubernatorial race in 2010...he'll likely lose and this outburst will only help to ensure that outcome.

I would say that if the federal government takes too many powers for itself at the expense of the states, then it would not be unpatriotic to consider succession

And to add: I would like to know if any of you had the same feelings about people in Vermont who were considering succession back when Bush was President. Did you consider them unpatriotic as well? Or is it different because they disliked the Republican President?

I'm sorry, but where was all of this outrage and indignation about the intrusive Federal Government when Bush and Cheney were wiping their asses with the Constitution and constantly trampling upon states rights' when it came to the privacy of citizens, regulating business and protecting the environment? This has nothing to do with any transgressions on the part of the new administration or the Feds overreaching on their mandated powers. These people are just upset because the Republicans are out of power on the Federal level.

Uhhhh...yeah. The "secessionist movement" in Vermont in '04 consisted of two hundred yahoos in a tiny hamlet named Killington who passed resolution at a town meeting because they were upset with the the Vermont state legislature (NOT the Bush administration) for allegedly underfunding their schools and hindering the expansion of the local ski resorts. No one took them seriously and they were eventually smacked down by state officials. Additionally, the residents of Killington were attempting to secede from the state of Vermont with the hopes being incorporated into New Hampshire. They wanted to join a different state not to become an independent country. That's a wee bit different than the governor of a state making threats about seceding from the Union because he doesn't like the new stimulus plan. Before you go accusing people of partisan hypocrisy, you should at least have your facts straight.

To answer your question, yes, I viewed the Vermont secessionists as unpatriotic and quite silly as well.

The Ultra-Right wing of the GOP is so sick of seeing a black president they are doing anything and everything to try to start a revolution to remove Obama from office. The Tea Parties and talk to secede will only play to the Ultra-ring section and only will alienate the independent which they need for the mid-term election.

I'm not disagreeing with you at all. I think Bush was a pretty bad president. He had very little regard for individual liberties and used the "defending America" and "protecting freedom" to trample on the freedoms of Americans

I'm not a hyprocrite. Whether it's a Democrat or Republican in office, I will hold their feet to the fire. That's more than some on this forum would do

    Indeed.

Well, I wish the people who were protesting last week had your integrity. It's baffling to me how they could support Bush's policies for eight years without a peep yet are ready to start an insurrection against the new administration before they've really even done anything.

Which is why I like to watch CNN as opposed to MSNBC or Faux news. One word:

CNN is just as bad as any of the other mainstream news outlets. The only on air talent they have who's worth a damn is Jack Cafferty, and he's semi-retired at this point. The corporate media in this country is a joke.
