I agree with some of this list. I would love to debate that Monkey in any given day (Ward Connerly)......fucken buck dancing disney ape, I hope some one pushes Potassium cy in his fucken IV.
Bumpy Johnson - Elsworth Raymond Johnson, also known as "Bumpy" Johnson, was a leading criminal known for running numbers in Harlem during the 1920's and 1930's. As a protege for "Queenie" St. Claire who ran the illegal numbers running racket, Bumpy was also involved in robberies and prostitution. While he was respected enough by the Italian mob that they rarely attempted to encroach upon his territory because of his toughness, he was also known to have a soft side as he regularly gave money and gifts to Harlem's poorest. Going in and out of prison did nothing to convince to him to change his ways. He eventually died of a heartache in the mid 1960's.
Horrible list. Last time haiti was respectable was when Papa Doc was running the show. Souljaboy? Come on. Young man's a self-starter and a self-made millionaire. Wesley, Rodman, and kellz are all okay in my book.
Dead Prez as a choice for positive hip hop can be argued. There are A LOT of positive hip hop acts out. They just arent on the radio (yet) Please check out Jay Electronica, this cat is going to blow up, he has already linked up with Mos, Nas, etc Exhibit C-http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Jc09HB7nEbA other great acts: U-N-I Blu & Exile (talk about positive!) Pac Div-Young Black Male-http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uJ6CQw0IGKI Wale (was dope before he dropped an album)-The Kramer-http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bp05cNnsR3I Gangstarr (old I know, but it still holds up and Guru is still making a recovery) Shape of Broad Minds-They Dont Know-http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dfVMwrv8IIY Little Brother Etc. I would encourage anybody who thinks Rap/Hip Hop is in a sad state to take a listen to the links I posted. This stuff is ALL CURRENT.
LOL I don't hate hip-hop, I just keep the shit in perspective. Past a certain age it's all you cats can talk about. I mean literally, have a conversation without working it in somewhere, I bet you can't. This thread is a prime example.
We'll see what hip-hop artists a) we're still talking about in 25-30 years and b) whether or not hip-hop provided rights and jobs (actual careers, not "hustles") and actually uplifted the race. I like some funky shit as well as the next man, but let's get real. Peeps try to make it MORE THAN WHAT IT IS. Prince by himself is more of a musician than ANY rapper, and then James Brown in his prime could kick Prince's ass. I have yet to see a rap cat step up to that plate.
Prince is dat dude. And James Brown is more dat dude then Prince. Jack Johnson, anybody know him? I wouldn't mind dude erased from Black History just how he went about everything. He was known for controversially openly (wasn't a secret about his life) dating white women though. So dude kind of paved the way.
I'm confused...you want the first black heavyweight champ erased from Black History? Meaning nobody remembers him anymore? :smt017
Yes I do. Not for what he did in the ring. But for how he went about everything. Don't wanna sound like an Uncle Tom here but I think that Joe Louis went about it much better. America fucked Joe Barrow over in the end so nobody really wins.
But Jack Johnson paved the way for Joe Louis. One could even say Johnson was a cautionary tale for Louis of how not to act as a champion. Plus, you could even say this board right here is a result of barriers Jack broke down. I disagree with your thesis. There are plenty of folks who should be erased from Black History but Jack isn't one of them.
