Works for me. This idea that all women use children to hold all men hostage for support is ill-founded. Like I've said before, if a man feels no attachment to a child, and has no intention of acting as a father towards the child, why should he pay support? Women are capable of raising children on their own, active involvement and financial support are not a necessity. Personally if my choices are that I can do as I please with my body, but I have to take full responsibility for everything that my choices entail; or I can let someone have a say and they'll share financial responsibility, he can keep his money and I'll keep my freedom, thank you very much.

 

You're drawing the wrong parallels. The parallel to a Man being able to declare that he never wants to pay child support is a Woman being able to declare that she never wants to pay child support -- which she can't. If a Man has custody, the Woman must pay child support. Happened to my Mom, happens to every Woman who finds herself without primary custody.

There is no parallel to carrying a child for 9 months, but you're welcome to keep looking for one.

The parallel is choice. Why should your choice strong hold my life. If you want freedom of individual choice than you should accept responsibility. Because if I want to keep the kid and you don't end of discussion. Its not fair to for you to make a choice that effects three lives

Just walked in, but I'm hoping it passes, as someone in health care who just required emergency surgery and is now paying over 6k despite insurance. (Because obviously I didn't need my ten lb. tumor removed, big baby that I am...) Either there needs to be federally regulated health care for all, or perhaps private institutions can just have more government supervision; the creation of new jobs for that sure wouldn't hurt. I'm very open to either or both possibilities.

 

This is one of the few areas where I have some ambivalence. On the one hand, I personally would not feel it appropriate to not tell a man I was pregnant if he were the father and I would then also feel that I had to include him in any discussion related to the pregnancy, though I wouldn't expect anyone else to do so if they didn't feel that was appropriate. However, I also don't feel it appropriate for a man to force a woman to carry a child if that's against her wishes. I have a massive problem with someone hijacking another person's body for 40 weeks.

 

Try paying for it for 18-21 years.

 

Not the same thing sugar. I assure you paying for my daughter for the last 18 years was a lot easier than carrying her for 40 weeks.

 

We're talking about a man's responsibilities vs. a woman's.

 

I got that. My point is Chi's right, there is nothing you can equate to carrying and giving birth to a child. That's just one of those things that defies comparison.

 

It is not fair. But there is no fair way to make a choice about a Woman's body that forces her to undergo either surgery or childbirth. Nor is there any fair way to declare that a child should grow up in poverty.

If you want to suggest that the government should be required to pay the difference of what the kid doesn't get from one of the parents, then that's one discussion. But like you said, we're not just talking about two people, we're talking about three. There's no fair way to declare that the kid's gotta be poor.

Women cannot make the choice not to financially support a child after it leaves her body. Neither can a man. But forcing the Woman to make choices that directly affect her in a bodily way will not make things fair. It cannot.
