Obama: Health care bill a victory for American people, common sense

President Barack Obama says the health care legislation passed Sunday night by the House is "a victory for the American people" and "a victory for common sense."

The bill "will not solve every problem" in the health care system, Obama says, but "moves us in the right direction."

Obama praised Speaker Nancy Pelosi and other Democrats for getting the bill through Sunday night's 219-212 vote, saying they proved that the government "still works for the people."

The heated debate that surrounding the legislation will fade away, Obama said, leaving a "health care system that works better for the American people."

Over and over, Democrats stressed the historic nature of the day.

The measure represents the biggest expansion of the social safety net since Medicare and Medicaid were enacted in 1965 during U.S. President Lyndon B. Johnson's administration to provide government-funded health-care coverage to the elderly and poor.

 

More like a victory for crackheads, welfare abusers, drug addicts, trailer trash, ghetto rats, the 5 pack a day smoker, and the alcoholic. Since they couldnt make it in life and get their own insurance, now they can be taken care of like children. Maybe thats why your all so happy, hmmm. Flame on

For better or worst we needed healthcare. Would you prefer everything be privatized. And I am so sick of the right saying that this will be for all the lazy people. What about hard working people like myself who couldn't be covered because of preexisiting conditions. What about all the people who would go bankrupt because of a broken leg or those who have insurance and get screwed over because insurance companies are businesses and care only about profit not doing right by its consumers. We have socialized education the military roads the fire and police department so why should your health the most important thing be for profit. You seriously disgust me

 

Doesn't she work in health care? I think that she mentioned she does and if that's the case that's really sad. I worked in health care and seeing people being forced to make choices about their health based upon limited resources available to them was very disheartening. Everyone should have access to competent medical care, regardless of how much or how little money they make. If you've got a problem with that, leave the US.

 

Congratulations to long-time supporters and fighters for the passage of health care legislation. This is definitely a victory for President Obama as this was arguably the keystone of his agenda to become POTUS.

Although I was firmly against it, now that it seems to be a done deal, I hope that it turns out to be a good thing for US citizens.

I'm here bro. I heard on the radio some idiot saying that now this is like a Christmas gift to him and his family that he will not have to pay much of anything now, just like that woman back during the election who said Obama will pay for her gas, her mortgage etc.. The leeches (dreads on society) got their wish. Tired of supporting the lazy asses who do not want to do for themselves. I could give a damn what others think.

 

If it is true that common sense is the knack of seeing things as they are, and doing things as they ought to be done, then, yes, this health care bill needed to pass. Therefore, you lack common sense as you're just echoing what the Becks, Hannitys, and the Limbaughs have been spewing with disregard to analysis of variations on your part as well.

Let me give you a couple scenarios how this bill could be of benefits to you:
Should you, the hard working woman, decide to have a child in the future and God forbids your child is born with asthma or heart condition, this health care bill will now prevent your child from being denied health insurance coverage because of a preexisting condition.

Should you, as you have claimed to be an employee of the health care industry at a hospital, contract tuberculosis when treating "an illegal alien or an immigrant from a third world country" and develop chronic lung disease as a result and needed a lengthy medical treatment, this health care bill passage means that your health insurance provider can not drop you or cap out your coverage because of your unforeseen circumstances and leave you to "lift yourself up by your bootstrap".

So, just because you are a hardworking woman and have health insurance coverage right now doesn't mean that you are immune to any of the aforementioned probabilities and that they can not happen to you and bankrupt you like it has millions of others before you. So, you should be thankful now because these types of difficulties are not unique democrats or minorities or impoverished communities, but they are republican and independent's stories too.

So, in the words of VP Joe Biden's words, "This is a big f***ing deal".

She said she did in another thread. You remember correct. Don't get sick at her hospital if you can't pay sounds like they aren't very sympatico to illness.

I worked in accting. in a hospital and one of the most memorable things to me was a 34 year old man who had Hodgkins. Memorable in a bad way. He died but not before his disease destroyed his family's financial stability. He was an engineer at a government reactor plant so he wasn't some blight on society. He was just some poor f*ck who got sick when he didn't want to. His wife was left without a house and resources to raise their two tiny sons. The CFO used to have meetings with me about what was left the hospital could get their hands on. They made someone from accounting do the checking since the amount was astronomical at that point, with their work insurance exhausted. So the insurance company got out of the bill but it fell on the hospital or should I say everyone else who walked through the door had to share in covering his bill.
