Charles Barron running for gov as head of all-black Freedom Party

'Don't call us racists when we point out racism,' Charles Barron says.



Firebrand Brooklyn Councilman Charles Barron is running for governor as the head of a new all-black party - saying the Democrats' all-white state ticket doesn't deserve black votes.

"Don't call us racists when we point out racism," said Barron, who is himself a Democrat. "This was supposed to be the post-racial society. Somebody should have told that to the New York State Democratic Party."

Attorney General Andrew Cuomo, the Democrats' pick for governor, is white - as is lieutenant governor candidate Robert Duffy, Controller Thomas DiNapoli and all five candidates for attorney general.

"The Democratic Party has taken us for granted," Barron said. "It's time for us to be for us. It's time for us to be a self-determining people."

Barron said his new Freedom Party will get 15,000 signatures to get on the fall ballot, and aims to get 50,000 votes for governor - giving it status as a major party for the next four years.

Charlie King, the executive director of the state Democratic Party - who is black - did not return calls. A Cuomo spokesman declined to comment.

Assemblyman Keith Wright, the Manhattan Democratic chairman, dismissed Barron's move and said Cuomo has strong support among black voters.

"He'll have a very diverse cabinet. He'll have a very diverse administration," said Wright, who is black.

This guy is an idiot. This is not an all black country. You can't win on simply black votes. I think people who act in this way come out of a narrow minded section. Good luck to him. He will need it.

 

He was a joker. There are not a lot of Blacks to make a brother Governor especially in New York State.

Charles Barron has long history fighting for social justice going back to his days as youth..

The New York Democrats are racists when it comes to supporting African-Americans politicans that are running for higher office..

 

so long for that saying if a blind black man can do it then any seeing man can.

 

You may not agree with Barron's methods, but I definitely can see his reasoning. The national Democratic Party has been taking playing a game of whac-a-mole with black voters since forever. They prefer for us to be seen, not heard. Every two to four years, they do the obligatory Martin Luther King Jr day rallies, visit a couple black churches, pick a few token blacks to run second-tier campaign positions and wham! They get at least 85% of the vote.

As far as I know, until black voters begin to demand concrete solutions to socio-political problems from politicians of both stripes, we will remain the perpetual electoral tools that we have been for decades. Virtually every interest group believes and acts as such, except for black voters. And we wonder why our issues get put on the back burner ....

 

This is so confusing. You don't think they do that to everybody? The republican party does it to the white people. I mean they had them thinking that there was death panels to stop them from voting for health insurance. They play this game where they get white people to send a letter to Obama saying Don't you dare install any socialist programs and at the end of the letter is says don't mess with medicare. You don't have to appeal to the democrat party. You just have to appeal to the people and have the money. Barack is proof of that. Going against the establishment and winning.

 

I'm a white woman and want to be part of Charles Baron's Freedom Party

I feel that there are many white people that want to join in the struggle for equality for black people because along with that issue go so many freedom rights issues.

I feel that for white people black people often represent the unconscious, undiscovered pain inside of a white persons soul. Instead of owning that pain, our society has created a systematic, socially acceptable outlet for us to unconsciously and often viciously direct our own pain. In psychology this is called projection. This gets translated into many hurtful, unjust abuses to black people and to many other things, like the rights of nature.

For us white people that are looking at ourselves and experiencing our own healing and not projecting our hurt onto others, we see the liberation of black people as a representation of the liberation of the human race.

Charles Baron, if you agree with this and you are open to having white people with similar perspectives join your party, count me in. I am a white woman and I want to be part of Charles Barons Freedom Party because it is about Freedom for all, through freedom of the most oppressed and ending the unjust painful patterns of projecting our own shit onto others. It is only when we take full responsibility for our own pain, own it, embrace it and speak the truth about how we are all God's children no matter our ethnic origin, only then will we find freedom as a people. Amen!
