Exactly. I'm not a test taker....I know plenty of people who scored high on the SAT that are doing nothing with their lives right now....but I'm doing just fine. Our lives arent measured in tests, they're measured in actions.
All test taking means is that you can test well but to be fair all the exceptional test takers I went to school with are doing great. No one who scored a 1400 or better is working at a Gas Station but those who scored above average the 1100 to 1300 range are all over the place in terms of success.
My friend scored 1590 on the SAT and he works as a night clerk in a hotel. Test scores are not an accurate predictor of success. Not to mention, I know some dumb people who are book smart.....and vise versa.
so you are saying basic education should only be for people who can afford it. now we are into classism
It's not that rare. Just because you can take a test, doesnt make you a genius. Why do you think lots of people hate standardized tests? It doesn't say anything about you other than your epic ability to wield a #2 pencil.
yeah really. you can be taught how to take a test. it is a technique. not saying testing shouldnt be used but it is not the end all be all.
You're missing my point nips. The people who do exceptionally well not those who just do good or very good(I already gave you parameters) usually study really hard. Those are the people who work hard in school. The forgeiners who don't watch tv but study six hours a day or the rich American kids who have tutors that work with them. Let me simplify it for you nips. Doing bad on the SATs doesn't make you a dummy it might mean you don't do well on tests but being in that top 5 percent of high achievers usually means your smart if for no other reason that you're smart enough to work hard. Get it? Lol
That's good to hear, because I got a 510 on the Math section and a 480 on the reading section. I don't think it's an accurate reflection of my true intelligence. I think within the education system, people should do the kinds of majors they believe they are good at and have coursework tailored to them for that. The course curriculum from K-12 education and beyond, should be based on what you're good at, not something that is used by everyone. I agree with Jase who recommended that scrapping the SAT was the best thing to do.
Mike....where did I say do away with sports. Im saying tax money shouldnt go to pro sports. besides it is not adding to the overall promotion of mankind. its just entertainment. if it went away life would be ok...it would not be a detriment in letting it go in favor of education. in college sports....only 60 out of 1100 colleges turn a profit from football and basketball thus they then use that money to subsidize the nonprofitable sports (per outside the lines) and from what I understand tax money also is used to build the college sports stadiums and arenas that are unprofitable and not using that money to get public schools afloat and subsidizing college students in getting an education. why are we paying millions upon millions for college coaches but we cant find money for a 10 year old to house for an education and have a teacher in front of them sat shouldnt be scrapped but the weight of it should be minimized.
haha.. yeahh... Now don't get me started on capital punishment. HA. Only one type of punishment I can deal with
EEP I know.. I've been on the forum sooo much because he's in Sweden right now and I miss him so I'm just wasting time.. 10 days and counting 'til we catch up.
do you think capitol punishment is something that should still be on the table do you think capitol punishment is something that should still be on the table in the school to maintain order
outside the lines ....should we pay the athletes . one point is the net profits of the college. at time 8:14 to 11:00 point so how should the money be used....?
