It's a shame when he is an invited guest in their country that they didn't take steps to avoid embarrassment for him. Like the music could have stopped for the toast or what stopped the Queen or Camilla from giving him a sign to wait? Everyone I guess takes it serious to freeze during that song. :( I consider their behavior poor to not make their guest comfortable.

I bet that's what he said right afterwards >.>

Poor man, I wonder if he wasn't supposed to make a speech then or what? Seems like the one playing the music is the one who buggered it up. Aww, I hope he's too not offended about it.

@Jordan, to be honest they probably didn't know what to do themselves.

Bit stuck up though, aren't they? I'd be giggling if I was the queen. Still wouldn't say anything to him, but she could've clinked his glass at the end!

Having watched it again twice after reading in the comments that she told him to put the glass down(looks like she did, but hard to hear it), I can see what happened, lol.

he said blah blah blah, propose a toast, her majesty the queen! And they thought he'd stopped.

It just reminds how i usually feel when I am back in an Anglican church after a long time off ... and am usually there the only one singing off key.....so different from a pentecostal church where u dancing and jumping and shouting and singing holy ghost come down now ...now come down ;)

the queen probably still has her undies in a bundle after her visit to Dublin...i'm certain i read that they did not bow to her...

No big deal, they know he is not a Brit, nor is he a subject to the crown. They have the genuine respect for him or they would not have had him to speak at Westminster Hall yesterday. The first American President to ever to do so. His welcome in Ireland was also met with a loud and positive greeting that was unheard of for foreign leaders.

If anyone saw the whole thing, when the Queen stood up and give a toast, he didn't respond either. It's only natural that people outside the commonwealth of the UK aren't too familiar with how royal figures do their ceremonies to commemorate their guest of honor. We do it more liberally and casually compared to how royal figures do it.

Still, it's shitty. But then again, gaffes are expected.

Wasn't President Reagan and before that President Kennedy at Westminster Hall?

President Obama is the first ever US President to address both Houses of Parliament in Westminster Abbey Hall the most historic and important of parliamentary places. Pres. Regan spoke to Parliament at the Royal Gallery at the Palace of Westminste**r in London. The Queen held a 'private dinner' for President Regan. The Queen honored president Pres. Obama with a STATE dinner which arranged by the British Government. President John F Kennedy spoke at the Westminster Cathedral which is down the road from the Hall.President Obama spoke at Westminster Abbey Hall, different space and a higher honor. The state dinner is also a higher honor to me, over the private dinner because it is meant to strengthen ties between friends (allied nations) rather than being someone who the royals just fancy today.

Confusing, I know...we are Americans after all.

Only her subjects are expected to bow to the queen.
Her first ever visit to Ireland was a big success, but it was very shielded from the public because of security concerns - unlike President Obama's visit, which was very public in nature.
