Herman Cain: "Being Poor Keeps Blacks Out of Tea Party, Not Racism"

Herman Cain is making headlines again for his unusual perspectives on race and politics. Not content to call the breeding ground of left-leaning candidates a "Democratic plantation," Cain's latest quip blames the poverty of black voters for the lack of diversity seen on the right. What's the main reason black voters are rarely seen at Tea Party rallies according to Cain? Why it's simple economics of course. African-Americans are on average just too poor to attend, the GOP presidential hopeful believes.

Just about to say that(well not honky apparently some of the ladies get really offended by that word). Then why don't they have hispanics or asians either? These fuckers are so damn dishonest.

I'm speaking more specifically about the tea party movement that's only interested in taxes and policies. You'd think they'd want the biggest minority vote on their side

I think he refuse to accept that blacks just simply won't vote for conformity and reactionary principles stressed by the sickening perverse right wing fundamentalists.

 

I think that this is the kind of rhetoric that appeals to the tea party crowd. It papers over the dynamics of race, poverty and marginalization and reinforces many of the stereotypes that they already hold about black people.

Of course, it also overlooks a lot of the more racist rhetoric of the tea party (especially the "birther" crowd) so that they don't have to feel like racists.

 

Especially if one black guy says it must be true. But I thought they wanted to get stuff done. Quit sweating small shit like race and focus on the bankers that stole 14 trillion from the citizens and the politicians that let it happen

 

I am not a tea partier, so I will admit that I've not been following the movement super closely, but I recall seeing some news coverage about how the voting record of the tea party peeps is not all that different from the Republicans as a whole.

Of course, the ideological differences between the Republicans and the Dems are not really all that huge either, in the big scheme of things. If you look at the ideological spectrum in other parts of the world, our parties are really just "Center-Left-Liberal" and "Center-Right-Liberal," and I'd place the tea party crowd in that second category as well.

Or, to paraphrase some grafitti I once saw, if con is the opposite of pro, then Congress is the opposite of progress.

Herman Cain is a black mascot for the worst kind of racists-- just like Clarence Thomas. Both are lightweights and neither is worth taking seriously.
