By the way he reacted to the interviewer...he looked awfully guilty.

 

It recalls Gary Hart's reaction to the allegations against him, to my way of thinking. To this day, Hart attributes it to his having been a young candidate for president, whose youth was threatening to older members of the political establishment.

 

I've just read about him. That is a bit of a downer. During those times, you'd had to look and be squeaky clean.

 

I've seen him (Hart, not Cain) speak several times, but even despite photographs that were widely disseminated - many of which were taken on a boat that was actually called "Monkey Business" - he's never admitted to any wrongdoing, to my knowledge. He keeps coming back to the refrain that he was targeted due to his youth.

 

And what's your personal take on him?

 

The elites ALWAYS scrape the bottom of the barrel for their puppets.

Washington is for people too freaky for Hollywood.

 

I think he's very bright and would have been a great statesman, but I also see him as tragically flawed.

If you really want to engage in this conversation, then at least get the politicians' names right, okay? And this devil's advocate nonsense from your part is practically irrelevant on so many ways. We're not talking about Democrats here. We're talking about a specific individual who has serious issues which has already affect his chances of getting the female vote.

 

Again. Complete and utter irrelevance. But I'll entertain you on something, so pay close attention...

Regardless of political party, an individual is guilty of such actions. Now let's observe something about the modern day GOP. Whether they are a Vitter, or a Craig, or any of the other nutjobs who invade the rights and personal freedoms of others. See where I'm going here? These people label themselves as values voters or people of family values and tout this nonsense by enforcing un-American views and rhetoric to scare the shit out of people.

Where does this lead to? Unlike some Democrats, these individuals have to uphold this personality to set an example for their constituents. And guess what? Those people I've named royally fucked up their reputation. With the exception of Vitter, those idiots learned a costly lesson. Cain is no different. He maybe new to the scene, but with personal positions, which can be enforced should he become president, will based very much on the "traditional" cause he stood for.

Also, with all the straight-talk he's been giving to the public, this is one thing that he cannot seem to get out of. If he was honest about it in the first place, it would most likely blow over by now. There are inherent flaws in his 9-9-9 plan anyway, so his credibility relating to economic measures won't help. So what else is there to look into? If he's truly a person of character and quite frankly, his "lost memory" only shows that he's slowly gearing towards the mind of a politician.

Ideally, these issues shouldn't be a problem. But when we're talking about the person who touts himself as such, as well as a problem solver, there's a lot to be examined with them, be it Democrat, Republican, Libertarian, or whatever. Cain will have to do a lot more to get the female vote...which he already has a lot of trouble with anyway.

 

That's a completely different scenario altogether, Charles. You're comparing apples to oranges and that's disingenuous. Byrd's history is no secret from politics, but he has shown to eradicate a part of that past by working with minorities and continued to do so until his death.

Secondly, Democrats back in the day were heavily conservative (Modern day GOP if you will), but some key Democratic figures were able to become the party to fight for rights of minorities. So again, where's the relevancy in your argument?
