This is horrendous and heartbreaking. That poor child. My heart goes out to the surviving daughter. Relieved they caught their killers and may that family rest in peace now.

Also the rape capital of the world. Some stats I know offhand, 1 out of 4 SA men have raped a woman, 40% of women in SA can expect to be raped at least once in their lifetime, women in SA have a higher chance of being raped than learning to read. I remember my sister talked about wanting to travel their. I damn near had a heart attack.
Yup if you are walking on the streets of some parts of Johannesburg you better not be wearing any jewelry else you could be in trouble.
This world has some fucked up individuals it goes without saying. I don't believe for a second it had anything to do with how they were treated, It was a straight robbery and cold blooded murder, with no appreciation of consequences. Just acting like degenerates in the moment. I find it funny that in South Africa whites are still hiring these folks to work for them. If I was white in South Africa I would pack my shit and get the fuck out or build a fort of security around my property. Right or wrong I wouldn't trust hiring some of these young dudes running around and on my property because they may be looking to jack you and kill your family. Seems like in South Africa you have to protect yourself. SMH.
Mandela's death will be coming in the immediate future (estimated March 2013) and by then, a major calm will occur for a few days with some rambunctious idiots here and there and then...a true communication breakdown...
True. It's vicious over there. Plus, because of the centuries of theft and exploitation, whites have inherited a lot of unfair advantages and illegally acquired wealth (particularly in land) and it creates a sense of pent-up resentment and grievance that makes some people feel justified in taking what isn't theirs. I don't see this social climate changing any time soon, amidst all the grinding poverty, unresolved equal opportunity issues and lawlessness.
Its a catch 22, in that Apartheid ended and while the social restrictions on movement were eliminated, many of the economic conditions engendered over decades of Apartheid still exists. As you said these are social issues that South Africa will be dealing with for a good while to come. A shame, given I heard its a beautiful country.
