The basic tenet of existence is to live and then die. What happens after that, it's all speculation. But I'd wager that the afterlife is nothing more, but a mere fabricated idea constructed by human beings because they are more or less afraid to die and so many memories are instilled in them from living out life. Experiencing many joys and heartaches, from the first birthday present to witnessing people who has died, people are quick to believe that one day they'll see them soon again as though there's a mystical element. I think people subconsciously attach themselves to this life and expect to retain memories once their bodies shut down and brain shuts off altogether. We want to believe that mortality has a level of infinite continuity. But I would argue that, with our finite existence, we have to live life the best way we can. While we may not experience the same joys and sorrows as the next person exactly, we can always make our individual lives better by treating everyday as though you can grab life by the balls.

True. We believe in perfection, but even that is purely conceptualized regardless of abstract mathematical analysis or real life applications. Can one create a perfect circle that's truly perfect? No. Approximations are often factored, yet ignored unless you're a mathematician specializing in shapes and differentials.
Mediums as in people who caters to tarot card readings, finding the dead, etc...? Yes. It's parlor tricks of the trade and you would have to completely engorged into the idea of spirits to actually believe that.
It's funny that people such as yourself post in this thread that the afterlife doesn't exist and state it as a matter-of-fact truism. Whilst posters like myself post in this thread and speak of the afterlife as if it DOES exist because I (personally) have seen evidence of it. Opposite ends of the spectrum, with both sides saying what they know to be fact. One is right. One is wrong. We can go round and round until we're blue in the face about our beliefs and the fact is, the one who is wrong won't find out the true answer until he/she dies. Now that IS a fact. :smt023
If he is right, then you will never know because you brain is gone. Meaning no way to make computations of such complexities of is there life after death.
Some believe that the brain is functional for a brief span of time after death. The fact is, we're still learning about the brain and will continue to learn about it for years to come.
Your evidence is no different from any other person who claim to have witnessed talking poo or a flying fairy or hearing things through walls. If there is anything we do have absolute certainty of, it's the fact that there are some things which can be explained through varied methods of psychology and neuroscience. It slowly diminishes the need for concepts like spirituality and what have you. But, it's perhaps the "ends of the means" for people to continue to believe in the supernatural in hopes of "living forever." The problem is...human beings have the tendency to cling on to the supernatural ideas because it's "easier" for them as a means of console. Apparently, it would drive some level of meaning for their existence as though it would give them some grounded purpose to continue to lead on rather than exercising a greater critical and rational analysis. If cops use them, then it's no wonder there's so much criminal activity. Maybe that's in Jamaica or some quack town filled with superstition. And perhaps in the more colorful areas of New York City.
I know they've been used to locate missing people, but that's a waste of money. What you need is a high-functioning sociopath who utilizes his or her amygdala to help solve cases. The quack shit just give them an opportunity to leach off of the public.

Human beings simply have the need for mysticism and spirituality. That's pretty much a no-brainer. I'm more about rational explanations and everything can be explained.
