Christine, I'm going to be in Zurich for a few days in March. I've never had a chance to stay longer than an overnight where we'd get off the train from St. Gallen in Zurich, go to the hotel in Kloten, and then go to the airport in the morning. This time, we're going from St. Gallen to Luzern for two nights, then back to Zurich, so I'm excited. Can you give me some advice about where to stay in Zurich that's not super expensive and might not be splashed all over the tourist sites? We aren't picky, it's just that the CHF is worth way more than USD right now, so it's a tough budget and I'm overwhelmed! Should we just stay in Kloten? It seems cheaper, but we only have two nights. We'd like to see a few things and hit some great restaurants in the process (I'm also planning on visiting CrossFit Zurich, which I am SUPER excited about!!!). Any recommendations there? We heard there's some amazing wine bar that was just featured on a show (I don't have the name on me right now), but outside of that, we're open to suggestions. Thanks for the help!
Greetings, I live a couple of hrs away from Zurich in Geneva and i know a good amoumt of people living on that side of the country. I will see what kind of information i can get from there and I will let you know.
LOL.. You know, Switzerland is everywhere expensive, no matter where you wanna stay. In Oerlikon you find an "IBIS", but I assume you need a taxi to the airport, it's not at a train station. Kloten isn't any exception either- less than 140.--chf/night you won't find any room. We have hostels, i.e. that are pretty funny (a lot of americans stay there, too). I have an appartment for my business partners in Basel, but they live there since November and I don't know, how long they will stay. But we will find a possibility, don't worry. Come to my email a few days before you leave, I'll send you my phone number.
140-160CHF per night is more what we're looking for, and I've had a hard time finding things in that range that don't have the worst reviews EVER. lol We don't mind staying in hostels...we've done it before and just gotten the private rooms. Maybe I could show you the links of a few of the places we've looked at and you could give me your opinion? Thanks so much for the help!
Ahh, we looked at Geneva and the hotels were insane. lol 500 USD per night on average...jeez!! I always appreciate any help!
If you are coming in March thats went the International Car Show is open so yes hotels are expensive that time of the year. I worked as a receptionist in a hotel while in college and we went from 180chf starting price to 600chf for a standard room. Its a small city and alllll the hotels are fully booked. Ibis budget is 99chf for 2. I know i was there recently.
That's true..in March there is the jewellery show, Basel fair, too..jesus..that could be indeed a problem. Naja, what I've said, we find a solution. How many people are you?
I've made you a booking for 19th - 21st of March, 2 persons.. it can be cancelled anytime. Just for security reasons, because the hotels are nearly booked out and indeed between 300-600 already. http://www.ibis.com/gb/hotel-2980-ibis-zurich-messe-airport/index.shtml
I was wrong, it's from April 25th till may this year..but it is amazing, fantastic..the jewellery manufacturers and diamond dealers from all over the world are there.. If you search me, come there.. I was in Las Vegas, too (for the jewellery show), but there it is not open for public...oooh it's soooo beautiful http://www.baselworld.com/en-US.aspx
Man, I'm bummed, but oh well! Would you like to meet my friend and I for wine or dinner while we're there? She's a lot of fun.
When I am in Switzerland, of course. And if the appartment of mine is free at this time, you can go there instead of taking a hotel room. Because these costs are one thing, but lunch/ dinner, coffee, transportation is pretty expensive, too. There you can cook yourself and it is more comfortable...
BTW..check this out. If you want to travel in Switzerland, this card is very senseful. Our infrastructure is fabulous, you can reach every place you wanna go pretty easy. http://www.swisstravelsystem.com/en/home/tickets-en/ticketfinder-en/swiss-pass-en.html you can only book it from outside of switzerland.
Even the youth hostels are expensive much more than Oslo's. Anyway I hope you guys can hook her up in the Land of the Living Large. News Flash:Tina Turner is becomming a Swiss citizen.
My experience in Switzerland is small:The Bahnhof in Zuricha and Geneva Airport. My unforgettable experience:Meeting a guy wearing a Romney/Ryan t-shirt in which I took a photo of him. I've told him this is where Romney keeps his money gaining interest.
Yeah, I've heard. I've seen her a few times in Zurich or on movie Premieres. I assume she (like many others) loves the privacy they can live in Switzerland. They can move alone and the people aren't "crazy" about them. But what I find extreme is, that she gives back her american passport, because it is not necessary at all. She really wants to separate from USA
The paparazzi are not as wild or blatent in Switzlerland plus, the hotels are so expensive they will not give any money to the hotel workers since the price of one photo can eat up a photographer's budget. I don't know why but,I think she does not want to pay taxes in two countries.
