Impressive group! I did not go to college (I did begin taking the basic courses, but didn't finish). I wanted to become a Registered Nurse and work with children, pediatrics perhaps. I ended up enlisting in the Navy right after HS and became a storekeeper/supply and logistics technician. After my 2nd kid was born, I decided to get out and now I work as a Government Civilian (who was just furloughed...woohoo :|) for the Army. I am an Executive Secretary/Jack of All Trades for 2 Colonels. Travel, Budget, High Profile Briefings, Administrative Coordinator for Clinical Advisory Groups studying adverse events relating to vaccines... I also work as a wedding coordinator as my side hustle for a very popular cupcake shop! I bake, decorate, and help people spend their $$! And I am a Mommy
Very Impressive Group!! How many of you have part time jobs along with full? For us…every cop does cause pay is so low.lol… I am also thinking of getting a 2nd masters in Political Science when I move to Oregon…would like to be a Lobbyist someday. Also trying to learn Spanish
It's never too late, if this still interests you. It's an amazing career choice with great earning potential. If you've got the heart for it, you'll find no greater joy than nursing (except for being a mommy, of course )
through the end of the FY or October. However, I have heard talk about another year so...don't really know for certain. Thanks for the advice, Raider. i have so much going on right now w 2 jobs and 3 kids. Trying to get my oldest out the door and help him start his life and make some decisions. Also, in a few years we will do it all over again w my youngest son...and I thoroughly enjoy spending my extra time w my little one (5) so right now being her mommy is most important to me. i am in a good position at my full time, as well. Up for a promotion, and learning so much w the new committees and things, so we'll see if this is in my favor. Not giving up on my education, just waiting for the right time w my full plate.
Have a Highschool diploma (we call it Abitur in Germany),which allows me to go to university, which I did want to do originally, but then I found out that due to a choice to drop a specific class after 11th grade,I am not allowed to enroll for what I'd like to do at university. So I tried to look for alternatives and ended up doing an apprenticeship (work and vocational school as a dual system) in the retail field. Finished that in june. August 1st I am going to further my education in the retail field by adding a dual studies program ,which will allow me to be something like a senior trading assistant -couldn't find an exact equivalent to Handelsfachwirt(in),but senior trading assistant comes closest.
I definitely understand!! I was supposed to go back to school starting last month, but I dropped it because life got in the way. I plan to go next semester but now I question if I should go for a degree in health and human services or IT. I've heard there's good money for clinical peeps who enter the IT/EHR field. I'll just be happy to be learning something new! Not easy though with two little ones at home so we'll see!
Can't you just take the class in college? Or a junior/community college? How can one class stop a person from doing whatever degree they want to in Germany? It makes little sense to me. Me: B.S. in Anthropology. 5 classes left before my M.A. in Library & Information Science. I would love to work in an academic library so I could potentially receive my PhD in Anthropology (which is what I really want to do) which would enable me to be a Subject Librarian for Anthropology. I currently work as an Engineering Admin (I support the engineers and also do some basic engineering tasks) at a Japanese manufacturing company and write scripts and make films in my spare time.
Sadly not.I asked about it and the response was negative. It's okay though. I may not be working in my dream career field, but the field I am in is not so bad either, and I have better career chances in it. In my prefered profession there is a rate of 2/3 university graduants being more unemployed than employed. Retail has a better ratio, especially if you have more than the basic apprenticeship through vocational school. We have Universität (university) and Fachhochschule (college).
It sounds like it all worked out for you then. Does Germany have 2 year colleges? Or just 4 year colleges/universities?
BS in Information Technology w/ Minor in Health Informatics MS in Cyber Security (Jan 2014 start PhD in Healht Informatics at UMDNJ)
I bartend on the side for cash. School eats into my ability to pick up additional clients, so I know how you feel on the side job bit.
How long you have to study depends on the exact field you choose and also whether you go full speed or rather take it slow. The medical field for instance has quite lengthy programs.
