http://movies.yahoo.com/news/actres...er-psychiatric-care-california-191559832.html LOS ANGELES (Reuters) - Troubled actress Amanda Bynes has been taken to a hospital for involuntary psychiatric care after the former teen star was involved in a disturbance in Southern California, authorities said on Tuesday. Don Aguilar, a spokesman for the Ventura County Sheriff's Department, declined to describe the incident that prompted deputies to take Bynes into custody and commit her for psychiatric evaluation. But local media reported that the 27-year-old actress had started a fire in the driveway of a home in the Los Angeles suburb of Thousand Oaks. Bynes was born in Thousand Oaks and grew up there. The Ventura County Fire Department confirmed that it responded on Monday night to an incident involving a gas can that was set on fire in a driveway and that Bynes was at the scene, but it would not say if she was accused of starting the fire. The small fire, which scorched the driveway, was extinguished by local residents, the fire department said. Under California law a person may be detained for a mental health evaluation for up to 72 hours. A message left with Bynes' attorney was not immediately returned. The actress rose to prominence at age 13 when she had her own comedy show on the Nickelodeon television network but has made headlines over the past year for erratic behavior, legal problems and odd posts on Twitter. Bynes, who is on probation in California for driving on a suspended license, is on trial in the state on a charge of driving under the influence and in New York on charges of marijuana possession and throwing a bong out of a window.
She needs to get diagnosed. Look at the 180 Britney did once they got a handle on it. But remember, it took a few involuntary stays for her to get appropriate diagnose and treatment.
Yes to both. Exhaustion, emotional stress and the like can definitely take a toll on your mental healthy. And I doubt anyone around her is really looking out for her best interests, as she's the goose that lays the golden eggs. The history of child stars is littered with sad similar cases. That Hollywood grind is unhealthy for even the strongest amongst us.
I remember having lunch with a trio of musicians who were playing music on campus. They saw that I played the saxophone and we talked about music. They told me to stay away from Hollywood because there are over 1,500 bands there alone trying to make it big there. If it's not the competition, it's the clubs themselves. Many clubs want to be paid before you play. It's an insurance policy in case the audience doesn't like you. Exotic dancers sometimes do it, too. My saxophone instructor told me to stay away from the music industry. He said it is okay to play for yourself or play in a small ensemble for fun but don't look for a contract with a big label. I also wanted to be an actor. But, that was not to be. I had read a few years ago about what region is good for actors in terms of race. The West coast was for whites and the East was for black or Latinos. I sometimes am thankful that I am not an actor now. Acting now is more intense a study than it was before. Lee Strassberg must be proud because a lot of these actors today use his methods even if they did not go to his school. Thankfully, some child actors had gone into other ventures like directing, retail, restaurantuer, hotel/resort, auto sales, politics, etc.
There are also some great artists, actors and writers who have made their mark in smaller markets, without having to all cluster around LA or NYC. The Little Brother hip-hop collective is from NC, there's an interesting secondary publishing scene going on in Chicago, etc. Talent may even stand out more in a smaller market.
That is true. Michelle Phillips of The Mamas & The Papas advised her daughter China(while she was in the group Wilson/Phillips) to sign on with a small label. Another example is the group Steeler's Wheel. Their hit song Stuck In The Middle With You was the true story of an experience that Gerry Rafferty and Joe Egan had when they had a meeting(in the same room) with two record labels that were very eager to sign them.
