A veteran New Jersey teacher could be fired from her job after discovering two naked kindergarten students “having sex” inside a school bathroom.

Kelly Mascio, 43, is facing termination in connection with the incident late last year at Mullica Township Elementary School in southern New Jersey. Mascio, who has taught for more than 15 years, is suspended with pay while a disciplinary process continues.

As detailed in a Mullica Township Police Department report, two of Macsio’s students--both five-years-old--went into an in-classroom bathroom and removed their clothes. When Mascio, pictured at right, subsequently discovered the children--a boy and a girl--they told her they were “having sex,” cops noted.

Mascio, who immediately reported the incident to the school’s principal, was suspended for allegedly failing to properly monitor the children. A related police investigation concluded with no criminal charges being filed.

If local Board of Education officials certify charges against Mascio, a state arbitrator would be responsible for determining whether the teacher is fired over the September 30 bathroom incident.

Mascio, one of four kindergarten teachers, is still listed on the school’s web site, which includes a link to a personal page (“Mascio Meadow”) created when she previously taught second grade.

This is ridiculous. When my son was little, he and a neighbor girl I was babysitting slipped into a closet to peek at each other's privates. That was two kids. A teacher has an entire classroom of kids. Things like that are bound to happen. Get her an assistant instead of firing her.

Naw, that makes too much sense. In 21st century America the norm is to place blame & punish someone rather than actually find a solution to any problems, big or small. Can't afford to pay teachers decently let alone give them an assistant to properly aid with a class room full of pre-schoolers/kindergartners. That's bad for America, cuz we're in debt & need to cut unnecessary spending of that kind out.......

more importantly if those kids were wotth anything they'd be geniuses or their parents would be rich. It's their fault they go to public school and it's their parents fault they can't just hire an aide to help. Damn takers

On a serious note why aren't parents speaking up in defense of this woman. How can they just sit back and allow this

There are really three reasons this lady might lose her job

First is the irrational panic people have, when they think anything remotely bad happened to their children.

Second, as a society we are obsessed we the "evils" of sexuality. I'm surprised someone didn't spin this into a sexual assault story, were the boy was the aggressor and the girl was the victim.

Third, we live in the most "cover your own ass" era in history. The education system bureaucrats know if they don't come down hard, on even the appearance of wrong doing. They themselves might become the target of the political correct jackbooted thugs.

These things can happen but it is infrequent. I remember when I was in the 2nd grade, a lot of times, a boy would be sitting next to a girl. It wasn't because they were assigned to sit together, but the boy or girl just sit together. Sometimes they sat real close. And when free time came around, it is no surprise to see these two together. Sometimes the teacher and the teacher's aid would supervise all the kids. But, kids always found a way under the radar. I hope she keeps her job and the kids transferred to different classrooms. That is the only action that I can see that could be taken in this case. She doesn't need to be fired.
