JW Gold 18yr Had this sitting in my collection for months, bought it because it got discontinued and finally decided to open it this weekend. (this should not be confused with JW gold label reserve). At the price range It had to compete with Balvenie 15 yr single barrel and the lovely Macallan 15 yr fine oak. Its a good whisky, but considering the competition I can understand why it got discontinued. I still think they should have kept the green label, poor marketing on their part.
Perverted minds think alike i was just about to tell her i could imagine being scratched by those nails
Mostly Vodka usually Ciroc or Grey goose but I recently tried Tito's and it was quite good. I would recommend it to anyone.
Currently Put together a whiskey tasting yesterday. Between a total of three people along with some Brats and Bourbon burgers made with Woodford Reserve we had. The Frank Sinatra edition of Jack Daniels- This will be the next Bourbon I purchase for sure. Truly a keeper. Angels Envy - A good Bourbon with a port finish Booker - A good cast strength Top shelf Bourbon Balvenie Doublewood 12yr - A must have scotch with a sherry finish Oban 14yr - Citrus heaven along with notes of milk chocolate. Lagavulin 16yr - Perhaps the best scotch in all of Islay Glenmorangie Quinta Ruben- A good non chill filtered scotch with a port finish We also found a gift set that comes with smaller bottles of the Johnnie Walker brands that are currently on the market. Johnnie Walker Blue- Some whiskys are actually worth the 200 price tag but this isn't one of them. In fact I would pay no more than 90 a bottle. JW Plantinum- Was considered the best JW by 2 out of three of us, it certainly had the better nose. JW Gold Label Reserve- A shadow of the previous gold label that had an age statement. JW Black Label- Meh. A whisky for the club.
SOOOO glad to hear someone else say JW Blue is not worth the $200 price tag. This is a whiskey that clearly makes it's living based solely on name recognition. I actually prefer JW Gold to Platinum, but just marginally. My 'goto' whiskey's are generally Hudson Baby Bourbon and Angels Envy Rye, finished in Caribbean Rum Cask. The Angels Envy costs about $75 around me so it's less than half the cost of JW Blue and double the quality. Once I'm drinking again (New Years) I'm going to have to try that Oban. I'm not a HUGE fan of Port Finish Angels Envy, but it is about 25 dollars more wallet friendly than rum cask finish and bang-for-buck better than JW Blue.
Oban is really good. After you try it neat put a couple drops of spring water in it and notice how it opens up on the palate. I have been looking for a good rye whiskey to try, Ill look for the Angels envy or maybe try Knob Creeks rye whiskey. JW Blue is a waste of money. Seems that its only purpose is to impress people who know nothing about scotch. I had always suspected that it was over priced, but I just didn't know the extent that it was. Took a few sips and was like :smt104 Single malt is the way to go. Especially when there is a hefty price tag.
