I just saw a headline online. What's the latest? My heart goes out to the families impacted.

This ish is only going to heighten tensions. The people of the world getting played like chumps by the 1% in their respective countries, letting religion divide them and be used as a basis for fanaticism.

I just saw it on the news...three people have been released...not sure what the person(s) want out of this ordeal...limited information...they don't know how many people are being held

Been watching it on BBC 24

They've been suggesting it's a Homegrown terrorist threat that we in the UK have been encountering (also the US)

I hope everyone get's out ok, the video of that poor woman with her hands on the window shaking really is awful.

But on a plus side NSW police seem to be bang on the job and are even searching packages and what not to make sure there is no secondary threat.

Wow. Just got in from work, turned on the telly - had no idea. :( This is traumatizing to watch play out...seeing the terror on the escaped hostages faces. Feel a need to call mum..While this is common here and we are used to it, its so rare in Oz. Praying he doesn't kill any of them.

The siege is over. The video is dramatic. He appears to be a lone wolf and possibly inspired by ISIS. This is just the beginning. After the slaughter in the mall in Nairobi, Kenya, the killings at the government ministry in Canada and now this, ISIS is making inroads in the western countries. The United States is vulnerable to these crazies who are in the rear waiting to spread their terror. Can you imagine dozens of incidents like this all over the United States. Well we did have Fort Bliss (workplace violence, yeah right), Texas, and the Boston Marathon Bombing. Still we have not learned anything.

Thank you for the wonderful update, Blacktiger. So thankful that nobody was hurt.

Thank you also for your prospective.... it's very true Australians, like Americans are very trusting and reactive.. not until something happens do we all then understand the full spectrum of these radicals.

Brought a tear to my eye. Very heartwarming.

Huh?, what? I'm not home...did he kill hostages? *I just now realized BT didn't specify if anyone was hurt, just that the siege was over.*
