I never watched the Golden Globes because awards shows are moronic, and they rarely nominate anything I like. Despite posting higher ratings last night, it's believed that Ricky Gervais won't be asked to host again because he (lightheartedly) shit on the heads of Charlie Sheen and Robert Downey Jr. Whatever. If there is anyone in the world who deserves to get shit on its Charlie Sheen and did you see Iron Man 2? Anyway, I am curious to know if you agree with this line of reasoning. If your social status is abnormally higher than the average persons, then you should be able to take a verbal punch.
I saw the show for a bit. Fucken Hollywood pussies, the guy was just being funny maybe a little over the top but taking jabs on few and cracking the audience. I saw Deniro, Alec and couple of other laughing. Lighten up all these sissy hollywood panzies.
I dont watch it either as its a great snooze fest..I did check in twice for a few minutes and I actually heard that swing at Robert Downey Jr.. he surely didnt seem to be amused... But what was said was true, even though its old. I didnt think it was that bad. I mean, what did people expect? It wasnt the first time he hosted>
Ricky Gervais is funny as fuck and he made me laugh.:smt038 He's known for being a bit blunt, if they wanted a safe host they should have picked someone else........... you can't control comedic talent.
The producers put a cap on Ricky's zingers for a entire hour before the show ended. It would had been a real exciting show had he gotten that extra hour of roasting. Robert Di Niro was bleeped a bit when he did his speech and wondered where is the text of that speech? Oh I wished he put on more about those stars on his stand-up special soon.
Precisely. So much of British humor is based on self-deprecation and having the willingness to laugh at yourself. You saw something similar when Chris Rock hosted the Oscars, but apparently he stepped on too many egos as well. Gervais could've come out and said, "Charlie you need to get off the cocaine and porn stars. Johnny and Angelina, how about not laying a fucking egg the next time you're on screen together?" No, instead he said it within the context of some fun ribbing.
I totally agree. I watched the show and thought it was hilarious. It's not like he said anything that wasn't true. People need to lighten up. Especially people who bring in millions to work on each film. Give me a break. They get much worse treatment in the tabloids, FFS.
I saw the snippets when he delivered his speech. But what's ironic is that when Chris Rock went to the UK to host some event and he referred to the Brits as "you motherfuckers", they all went in an uproar. Their reaction to reacting to something as harmless as that had me laughing. Regarding this event, it's British humor and while Ricky is a decent comedian, he did deliver his comical routine quite well. British humor, often overrated because a funny accent can contribute to comical value, yet holds a lot of truth behind the matter and such dry humor is greatly needed.
lol...THAT SHIT WAS FUNNY AS HELL...ha ha ha When you reach a certain level, and as long as people are not lyin' about you, you need to suck that shit up and laugh... ...he's lucky he was't a comedy club and needed to get up to take a pee. ha ha ha!
I dont think he went too far. In fact it was damn funny. But, I do think he overshadowed the awards & winners themselves.
I thought the video was pretty funny. The only thing about their status that should make it easier for them to take that verbal punch is that they chose to put themselves under the scrutiny of the public eye, so they should expect it when they do stupid shit.
yeah, I agree. Im not sure who it was but one dude was coming up to get his award and rick went to shake his hand and the guy stiff armed him like he was walter payton
It's been years since I watched it, but the Dance was the funniest thing I'd ever seen at that point. And the Christmas party where he is waiting for his blind date and the massive woman walks up to the door and he thinks its his date, then the look of relief when it's one of the other guys Wife. It's his face that's so spectacular and the attitude is spot on.
Oh and if youfancy watching something more subtly funny Getting On is fabulous. Starring the wonderful Jo Brand. It's in my opinion a genuine despiction of an NHS geriatric ward soooo funny. The Consultant (Pippa) is absolutely fantastic so realistic, I have been in hospital and had someone like her see to me. Lol
