Facts. I have no clue what they think left means but usually people are referring left of center and if you don't think JFK and FDR were radical you literally have no sense of history. Proposing for black people to have equal rights and end segregation in a country where you could kill whole families without a trial was radical. Giving healthcare government jobs and retirement benefits to people after an economic crash going after corporations and breaking them up was radical by any day's standard.
Oh they didn't? What do you think democratic socialism is? Because in actual practice and policies presented they most certainly were. Obama/Clinton democrats democrats as we understand them right now want slow incremental hey let's try to make sure both sides are happy policies. The FDRs and Bernie Sanders type of democrats want radical stop making kids work 40 hours week and give everyone healthcare change.
Post a source of them mentioning it once. If you can't then it's some new shit and so are your political values. I would have been considered far left back then but in this day I'm a moderate. You would have been far left then and you are far left now so it shouldn't be confusing to you and Boba as to who the far left is.
Mentioning what? Being far left? I doubt the language existed but that's moot considering we have their actions and policies to observe. This is no different than Republicans saying that Republicans freed the slaves. It ignores the obvious difference in actions and ideology. Do you need a philanthropist to scream hey look at me I'm a philanthropist or do you judge them on what they've done.
Mentioning "democratic socialism" no they didn't have free college and all the other stuff you far lefties want so wtf are you talking about? The bottom line is I would have been considered far left then just like FDR, but in this day and age we are moderates.
Free healthcare and social security are moderate? How is that different from extending public education 4 more years?
Yeah not making radical shifts and being stable is moderate. You get it now? I don't want to fuck with what's already "free." I just don't see a need to keep piling stuff on.
Until the 1960s, public colleges were TUITION FREE. All Bernie and Warren are trying to do is make America great again. http://factmyth.com/factoids/state-universities-began-charging-tuition-in-the-60s/
Thank you for posting something substantial and informative. A quote from the article: "Even though some state public schools were “tuition-free” for a hundred years of US history, only the “well off” typically attended college as most people had to work for a living, and didn’t have the money for extra fees. Businesses, and society as a whole didn’t usually require specific job-related degrees in the early in US history either, so many who did attend college often only took the courses they felt they needed to succeed. This made overcrowded schools a non-issue." Totally different reality than we're in today but thanks for the article.
They were actually "tuition free" still had to pay room and board, fees, ect..... but it was "tuition free" So I was wrong about that. EDIT: That's not even "free college" that you guys are asking for today tho correct? You guys want all that stuff to be "free". lol So I wasn't wrong about that after all........lol
No tuition free college which would include trade schools that use to be apprenticeships. It's even more critical now since going to work retail or at a factor is no longer an option.
I know times get rough man but come on. Part of learning is figuring out the basics. If you can't get 500 together then you have much more fundamentals to build, maybe you aren't ready for college yet. Just like if you are homeless, shelter should be your concern before college.
Everyone has different circumstances. I had two working parents willing to help me out but I have friends who had parents who straight up abandoned them so they couldn't pay for school and when you're under 24 you can't even get a loan so let's say everything is comparable to community college where tuition is like 2k a semester. If you cant get a loan what are you suppose to do? Especially if you're on your own and you're lucky enough to find a minimum wage job you still can't afford it. On 15 dollars an hour you get 600 a week 450 after taxes and lets say you get super lucky and find a reliable roommate to split a 1500 dollar one bedroom after utilities and transportation you might be left with 300 bucks a month and that's before food. No one is saying it's impossible it just shouldn't be that hard to obtain an education so you can live your life with some freedom and dignity.
Why saddle an 18 year old or anyone for that matter with debt just to get an education. As a tax payer are you ok with public schools?
That's a good point, I don't understand why people have issues with subsidizing higher learning students. There are proven links that show that as education levels go up poverty goes down. The more people who can earn a living wage fewer people are going to need government housing, food stamps, and medical aid.
Because some people truly believe suffering is a good thing. They believe it builds character even though most of these people once they themselves are rich do everything they can to make sure their kids don't have to work
