    And they wonder why we call the GOP flat out racist. It's like they want to alienate people. It disgust me neither side calls this guy the piece of shit racist he is and that's why I hate both sides Karma. The Dems are too pussy to call this guy out by name and Republican Party swears they don't support racism or discrimination of any kind. That's why they don't appeal to young voters. It's all horse shit. I'm disgusted!!!

    Trent Franks is an ignorant ass, and he's so successful at it that I doubt anyone pays attention to anything he says, other than to think 'what a stupid dick'.

    What irritates me is that he spouts bullshit statistics on black women and abortion that have no basis in fact. He makes it sound as if the majority of women seeking abortion are black, which again is bullshit. The majority of women seeking abortions are white, black women account for 35% of abortions in the US (source: http://www.plannedparenthood.org). When you factor in the reasons that contribute to abortion, like poverty, being single, lack of access to medical care and contraception, you get a better understanding of why. But instead he just throws out misinformation and then attempts to use slavery as an example of how black people were better off. What an f-ing dick. Anyone that would consider anything he says for even a split second is an idiot. I suspect that's why you don't have people bashing him for what he said, they likely figure everyone else can see he's a moron so there's no need to point that out. He's got a track record of saying stupid shit, and at some point people just become desensitized to that and expect it. Like my son explained to me yesterday, "the world is full of dicks, and they aren't capable of anything other than being dicks cause it just comes natural to them, and the only thing you should ever expect from someone who is a dick is a dick move."

    Well, one guy doesn't embody an entire party.

    On the other hand, after seeing what was going on with much of the Republican party during the elections in 08' [GOP Rallies], this only reaffirms a rather common mindset of the people supporting it.

    Exactly. Being republican means being racist these days.

    There definitely are Democratic racist. Southerners were typically democratic before LBJ but the Republican party clearly caters to that shit. Have you seen a townhall meeting. Keith Oberman was right when he pointed out that amongst all these hardcore conservatives that every single one of them looks the same. Sometimes racism doesn't have to be a sign that says "no blacks allowed" it can be a bunch of faces that read whites only.

    There are two viable "parties" in this country. One has to conform their beliefs/views into them. It stands to reason that one can have a negative view of Black people and still believe in the Democratic platform.

    Do you think all the White people who voted for Obama want us living next door to them or marrying their daughters? Same way as many Black democrats don't support gay marriage, but yet vote for politicians who do.

    Of course this duopoly we have touts different ideas, but serves one elite, say this to both republicans and democrats though and you get accused of some sort of nihilsm.

    Both true facts if improperly worded. Neither gentleman endorses a return to slavery, nor do they suggest that most abortions are by black women.

    Sick of you conservatives trying to blow shit out of proportion. Nowhere NEAR the same thing.

    Rep. Franks needs to shut his mouth. Maybe we should all go back in time and let him be a slave and see how he likes it!

    Robert Byrd, that guy has to take the cake for the most racist actions and past of anybody in politics today.

    @Amanda

    Amanda, you're right, Byrd has a horribly racist past, with his KKK affiliation. And I seriously doubt his 'conversion' on matters of race in the mid-to-late 1960s. He ranks right up there with Strom Thurmond and Jesse Helms in terms of vileness. The Senate is better off without them.

    I sort of agree. I hate the Republican establishment but I pity the Republican elites' followers. The followers tend to be either ignorant, naive, or cynical.

    They don't wonder why. They understand why and just don't care. After the late 1960s, the Republicans have been largely successful in deploying the racist Southern Strategy to garner support from Southern whites who are hateful towards black.

    Totally on point

    I agree. Their use of the Southern Strategy is directly responsible for Reagan and Bush-43. Their party is imploding on itself because of the narrowness and racism of this approach, just ask more moderate Republicans like Danforth, Snowe, Collins, and formerly, Specter.
