Air Force, same benefits and no field service. American foreign policy is fucked; don't take a bullet behind some bullshit. And I am sorry, it wasn't long ago that California offered opportunities where even a high school dropout could attend a topnotch UC.
I'm not trying to be on the frontline, though. My friend wants to do that kind of stuff, but not me. I'll be cool with some desk job type shit in any section of the military. People with 4.0s aren't even gonna get into top UCs as far as next spring. Nobody is being accepted for the spring 2011 semester and the fall semester doesn't look good, either. And the people who are getting in right now have limited spots open for majors. Who knows when they'll accept people again.

So I was reading a young man's FB wall regarding the Miss Universe contest (which I didn't watch nor do I know who won) but it was 48 comments of how white people bring down the black people and how all whites are racist and on and on. Sad to see that young people today are still so full of hate. The worst part is is that in his country, there's very few whites and they are certainly not the ones bringing down black people. So sad.
IMHO, judging ALL the young people today for one person is a bit of a major generalization... but it's just my opinion.

It is a good time because the war is coming to an end. if you join get a MOS/job that will serve you when you become a civilian and have some relationship to the degree you want to get in when you get out the military. I wish someone held my hand and told me that shit along time ago. I would have been better off than I am now.
