I'm a Christian, but as I said on a different thread, I identify as a "liberal Christian" of sorts. Fundamentalist Christians would tell me I'm not a Christian at all. I'm a follower of Jesus but I'm not a Bible thumper who goes around telling people they're damned to hell. I was raised fundamentalist (of the Jerry Falwell variety), but as I've matured and studied religion, I believe God is all-loving and doesn't plan to send people to burn forever just because they didn't pray the right prayer. It's complicated, but basically what separates me from fundamentalists is that I truly believe God is bigger than religion, and there are many ways people can find God. Most people will live and die never having heard of Jesus or the Bible. The biggest thing for me is to apply the golden rule and do my best to show love to all people.
This is where I stand. The principles set forth in the bible are life changing and provide a strong foundation for my life, but I have grown tired of the games that so called religious people play. I keep my eyes focused on the Almighty One. He has never failed me yet.
Personal Peace 3 Ways to Personal Peace: 1) Worry about nothing. 2) Pray about everything. 3) Think about good things.
Thanks Tam, we had a GREAT sermon Sunday....glad I could share some of it here and it was appreciated. I'm very comfortable in my Christianity and as long as I remember that there is only One who is judge and jury, all will be just fine....
No, TC...thank you for your post. Sounds like Philippians chapter 4...with the subject matter, I don't doubt it was a great sermon. I love being a Christian (even though I stink at it sometimes) & I'm thankful the One who judges us is merciful & loving & wants us to make it.
Here is a link to the website of Dave Ramsey. http://www.daveramsey.com/home/ I just posted this over in the investment thread and thought maybe it would also be useful here since this seems to be a thread in support of Christianity and such. Anyway, being a Christian myself, it has been nice listening to financial advice being given by another Christian. Dave Ramsey has been a guy that has been at both ends of the financial spectrum. I do listen to his radio show at least a couple times a week (can access it from his website), or if I don't listen to all 2 to 3 hours I'll at least listen to his podcast which is like 45 minutes to an hour on my iphone. What is cool about this guy is that not only is he not afraid to break things down for people, but he also has good judgement in how he offers his advice. It's not based on some sort of health & wealth gospel or get rich quick schemes. He's about working hard, working smart and knowing when to tighten the beat and eat the 'beans and rice' as he puts it. Okay, so I came across some videos of him on youtube. I'm assuming he has whole DVD series of this stuff out. Anyway, I decided to go ahead and post a couple here. Hope you guys don't mind. I am of no religion and I love it too. So warm...so smooth. IMHO no one sings gospel so powerfully well as African Americans. I will bump that in my car as loudly as I will RnB.
