Anyone who has a decent knowledge of American history knows that gun control in America is blatantly racist. It's a vestige of the Jim Crow laws. Before the Civil War ended, State "Slave Codes" prohibited slaves from owning guns. After President Lincoln issued the Emancipation Proclamation in 1863, and after the Thirteenth Amendment to the U.S. Constitution abolishing slavery was adopted and the Civil War ended in 1865, States persisted in prohibiting blacks, now freemen, from owning guns under laws renamed "Black Codes." They did so on the basis that blacks were not citizens, and thus did not have the same rights, including the right to keep and bear arms protected in the Second Amendment to the U.S. Constitution, as whites. This view was specifically articulated by the U.S. Supreme Court in its infamous 1857 decision in Dred Scott v. Sandford to uphold slavery. The United States Congress overrode most portions of the Black Codes by passing the Civil Rights Act of 1866. The legislative histories of both the Civil Rights Act and the Fourteenth Amendment, as well as The Special Report of the Anti-Slavery Conference of 1867, are replete with denunciations of those particular statutes that denied blacks equal access to firearms. However, facially neutral disarming through economic means laws remain in effect. After the adoption of the Fourteenth Amendment to the U.S. Constitution in 1878, most States turned to "facially neutral" business or transaction taxes on handgun purchases. However, the intention of these laws was not neutral. An article in Virginia's official university law review called for a "prohibitive tax...on the privilege" of selling handguns as a way of disarming "the son of Ham," whose "cowardly practice of 'toting' guns has been one of the most fruitful sources of crime.... Let a negro board a railroad train with a quart of mean whiskey and a pistol in his grip and the chances are that there will be a murder, or at least a row, before he alights." Thus, many Southern States imposed high taxes or banned inexpensive guns so as to price blacks and poor whites out of the gun market. The National Firearms Act of 1934 placed an essentially prohibitive licensing and taxation scheme on automatic rifles and so-called "sawed-off" shotguns, seeking to restrict their ownership. To sum it up...anyone who supports gun control is a racist KKK member.
exactly, we blacks talk about the police never coming to our aid but always pulling us over and profiling us---striping citizens of their right to self defense and protection by LEGAL gun ownership against those who will acquire and use guns Illegally is more than absurd it is criminal! We have the right to own and possess a gun(s) in this country--the Supreme Court in DC v. Heller last year made it clear that gun ownership is not just for police, the army or a militia but for the private citizens to keep and bear arms. Funny, that we dont pick and choose through the other constitutional freedoms, i wonder if we did which ones would people use to control and dehumanize black people? hmmmm, the 16th amendment, or to take away womens rights, or to take away right to worship where you choose or not to workship, or to speak freely?
and from the beginning Health care isnt a constitutional right/ we could have exchanged blacks right to vote or freedom from slavery for mmmm say healthcare. Funny how we talk about voting rights too, and not healthcare as a constitutional right
Y'all should come down my way...these WM LOVE...I MEAN LOVE THEIR GUNS..and not just a little huntin' rifle and a small handgun..no sir, they try to get their hands on military grade assault rifles so they can blow some unnamed assailant to smitherines. Hunting dear and protecting your family doesn't require you to have an entire arsenal of weapons...you can only fire 2 at a time. And if someone really wants to f*** you up...they'll catch you on the street and slice your throat before you can say "Hey!" Guns are one thing, but it borders on obsession in Texas...almost as if they are preparing for the Great Race War I..LOL!
i know tht is awesome, i lived part of my youth in suburban dallas and love the place, will be moving back in spring 010 to southern texas.
I used to do plenty of road trips from H-town to Dallas and you saw some pretty spectacular stuff on the way to Dallas - I remember seing this HUUUUUUGE potato gun rigged on the back of a huge crew cab truck.. It took up ALL of the back, It was insanely big... I was laughing so hard! Yep, the WM are obsessed with stuff like that so even the potatoguns need to be assault style!!!
Oops I forgot about this thread. Kind of late answer but, I carry a .45 caliber Taurus its model no. P 145. Its very compact and holds 10 rounds of hard hitting .45. I am surprised that it can fit 10 rounds into such a small package. It actually fits into my pants pocket with a pocket holster...this is good for concealment during the summer when hip holster are hard to hide. I also sometimes carry a .40 Austrian Steyr M40 that holds 12 rounds of .40 S&W. It is slighty larger than the Taurus, but more accurate at longer distances and has a shorter trigger pull. If you buy a gun for home defense you might want to get something that you can also carry if you later get a carry permit. I tend to shy away from 9mm's because I like a bullet with more stopping power, but that is just a personal preference. Guns like Glocks, Sig's, HKs and the new line of Smith and Wesson M&P series pistols are very reliable and accurate.
I must admit that I collect semi-automatic rifles...as do my friends...I used to love shooting them...as they are loads of fun, but now I tend to buy them as investments. Once they are banned they will sky rocket in price and I hope to sell them and triple my investment. I lived in Texas for a while and yes they love their guns, but so do the citizens of Florida, but Floridians seem to run under the radar...they had concealed weapons permits wayyy before Texas approved theirs!!! Here in Michigan huge amounts of people are getting concealed weapons permits...from young women to grandmothers...across racial lines also. Its not just the traditional gun lovers. As the economy of Michigan gets worse so does the crime rate.
I think people that have gun permits should take some self-defense classes or even strive for a full-fledged martial arts experience in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, Tae-Kwon Do or any other art. Handling a gun requires care and precision. You need to have a level head but you must also know how to handle yourself when you can't access your gun. The discipline and self restraint you learn in martial arts is probably needed more with those that handle guns...it takes many years to become truly deadly as a fighter but only one bullet to reach that same level as a gun owner.
