    Hello All,

I have been working with the guy I am now dating for almost a year (just to let you know I have known him for a long time). We have been officially dating for 8 weeks and officially exclusive for 2 weeks - - even though neither one of us dated others during that 8 weeks. His birthday is coming up in a month. I know he LOVES the Colts football team and a while back ago mentioned how the new stadium that they are building is selling bricks to put in front of the walkway of this new stadium and acted like he would love to get one. (he is going through some financial issues right now so he won't be able to buy one for himself). These are limited quantities (only so much room) and a once in a life time gift. A brick costs $175 and I would be more than happy to surprise him with it on his birthday. My only concern is, is it too soon to offer such a pricey gift even though I know it would make him so happy? Maybe this is not considered a pricey gift... I really don't know. How would you men feel to get such a gift?

Also, since this is his brick, I would really like to know what he would want the brick to say. How do I go about asking him such without telling what I am up to. I thought about saying that I know a friend that is getting a brick and tell him what they are saying then ask, what would you want your brick to say?

Any input would be greatly appreciated. :)

    Hey there...

In my opinion, it's never too soon to give someone you like a gift...the fact that it is pricey doesn't really matter...just as it wouldn't matter if it was a $10 gift...the gesture is simple and beautiful and if he is a good guy he surely will know how to appreciate the value of your gift!!

About what the brick says, If it were me, I would want something simple, not too cheezy (sorry, I know I'm not helping a whole lot here :))

But if u ask him about what he would want his brick to say, he will probably suspect that u are trying to buy him one and your surprise effect will be ruined!!

Good luck to u both for the future of ur relationship! :)

If he loves the Colts as much as i love the Bears (yeah, i'm still trying to get the super bowl loss out of my head LOL) the brick sounds like a fantastic idea. If a woman did that for me, i would absolutely love it. I guess the brick should have his name on it, and how long he's loved the Colts. Like it would say his name, and then say "Diehard Colts fan since 92' or something like that. Or what you could do is casually ask him in a conversation and say, "if you had one of those bricks, what would you say on it?" And then you can take those exact words and use it on the brick. I'm just throwing some ideas out there for you. I'm sure you'll come up with something creative though. Good luck with it.

Hi Sacha99! Welcome to the forum!

I think your gift idea is great! It's very thoughtful and would show him that you pay attention to what he says and what he likes. People always appreciate such personal gifts.

However, I do understand your hesitation about the price of the gift - especially since he knows how much it costs. If he is going through a financially diffucult time, he may feel badly if he can't recipricate with such a pricey gift for your b-day.

If you do decide to go for it, I do think that he should have the opportunity to chose exactly what is written on the brick, so you could always just give him a homemade gift-certificate for the brick and you could actually purchase the brick after you give it to him, so that he can choose what it says. I don't know how far you've looked into this, but the company may actually offer this option... you know, they give you a certificate to give to him so that he can choose what it says.

Just my thoughts. Good luck with this and keep us posted as to what you decide!
