I'm flying to NYC with my sister on Sunday, we're packing right now (I like to be organised, lol) and she's telling me I can't take spare, packaged AA (alkaline) batteries in my checked baggage and that I am meant to take them in my hand luggage. Last time I went I can't remember what I did.

Does anyone know 'cause I know you guys fly a lot? Cheers.

She's got it backwards. Put the batteries in your checked luggage, not your carry-on.

When ever I've flown overseas I've always had batteries in my checked luggage. Never had a problem from any country at all. However, having said that...I've never been to America. You guys could have more strict rules about it. Best thing to do is to check the airline's website. They'll have a list of things you can't pack on the site.

I always check in batteries. Never had a problem.
Haven't tried with carry on luggage.

EDIT: How long are you going for? Where are you staying? And remember to post pictures! I am totally jealous of you!

  5. I always take my camera on, and it has batteries inside... can't see it being a problem though I am no expert... I HATE flying!!

They must go in your checked baggage. Also no liquids or gels over 30ml in your carry on. I have lost a fortune in hair care products and body lotion by forgetting that little gem.

I don't think you'll have any problem taking batteries in your checked luggage. When i went on my trip, i was able to carry pretty much anything i wanted in my checked luggage, it was the stuff in my carry on bags that they made me remove, such as lotion, and cologne (how ridiculous is that). So, batteries should be good.

Hope you have a safe trip by the way!

Ahh see yeah, I dunno what to do! I'll just chance them in my hand luggage, if they confiscate them then I can buy some over there.

Yeah though, it is mega awkward with the luggage... :smt018 Last time I had my hand cream taken away, annoying. :(

I'm going on Sunday and I'll be back the following Sunday, so away for a week. :D Can't wait, sucks that I'll be underage there as far as drinking, lol. I can't remember what hotel we're staying at, my sister organised it. It's on Times Sq, that's all I know. I hope the weather is good. :D
