The front-runner for the Democratic Senate nomination in Illinois, state Treasurer Alexi Giannoulias, describes Obama as his mentor. He is only 33 and hasn't served a full term in office, and his only previous experience was working for a family bank now in financial trouble. The politician of the Greek Diaspora, has improved his appearances and his image and he has managed to create great dynamics on his election campaign which resulted in the support of labour unions of the State. However, he is facing charges for a past misuse of housing loans of Broadway Bank which belongs to his family. Furthermore there is an increasing number of articles on the White House seeking a more convincing candidate for the elections. President Obama tried to convince the general attorney, Lisa Mantigan to run for the elections, but he did not succeed. Alexi Giannoulias was born on March 16, 1976, in Chicago, of Greek immigrants. His mother is from Chania and his father was from Kalavryta. Alexi graduated cum laude from Boston University with a degree in economics and earned a law degree from Tulane University’s School of Law. He formerly served on the board of directors of the Community Bankers Association and as Vice-President of Broadway Bank in Chicago’s Edgewater community. Giannoulias played professional basketball in Panionios B.C. Greece for a year (1998-99) before enrolling at Tulane University’s School of Law in New Orleans. After earning his law degree and passing the Illinois Bar exam, Giannoulias took a position as Vice President and Senior Loan Officer at Broadway Bank, owned by his family. Alexi Giannoulias was elected State Treasurer of Illinois on November 7, 2006, capping off one of the more improbable victories in Illinois politics.
Yes to Giannoulias, yes to Hynes, Yes to Preckwinkle , No to Dunkin. ...And that's all I've figured out so far.
Okay, I just saw an add for Robert Marshall. Even tho he has very little chance against Giannoulias, I may just vote for him anyway. He's pro public option, anti-drug war, wants to bring all the troops home, and wants to decriminalize marijuana.
I'm voting O'Brien for Cook County Commissioner. Seat is traditionally black, but give the white man a shot. It's the "people's seat." LOL. Plus I hate Stroger. Quinn is tainted because he was Lt. Gov. under Blago, so it's Ryan for me, even though I don't like him that much. Clean house. All others we'll see. Rumor is Rahm is coming back to Chicago to run for Mayor, he's got my vote if I'm still here. Blago is on "Apprentice" this season, what the fuck???? Why don't they lock his ass down already? Where are the formal indictments? This is why people in the country scoff at Chicago "justice." PS: I like Alexi and Raja as well.
I'm shocked & appalled (just a little ) at your support for Rahm. I kind of loathe him. LOL. Count me in the "he's Obama's Cheney" camp.
Obama NEEDS a Cheney. Dems as a WHOLE need a Cheney. Closest we've come was Carville and even he's weak now. Read "The Thumpin'", Rahm is a bad-ass Jew.
Raja? Isn't that the Indian Sikh doctor who was running for old Obama's seat as a Republican in 2004? may be I mixing the name up or it is another raja.
I disagree. There's lots of buzz about how tough he is, but he's only tough on Democrats, and only when they won't be all bipartisan-y. If Rahm had been in there cracking heads & acting as tho he had a majority in Congress, health care would have been done with a public option months ago and there would have been a big bow on top. He never gets tough with the Republicans. Like most of the Dems, he's still acting like they're in charge. Obama needs a new pitbull.
He must have switched parties, I could have sworn he was a Dem. Oh well, if he's Repub, I can't do it.
I'm no fan (there's been many a protest where a chicity was heard to be shouting "Dump Daley! Dump Daley! Dump Daley!")... but 8 years under Bush have taught me this: there is always the possibility of worse. I find it totally plausible that there could be someone even worse than Daley. I'm not convinced Rahm wouldn't be that.
Well if he's only tough on other Dems like you say, I think he'd a be a pretty good mayor. Then again I'm halfway thinking of getting the hell outta Chitown so the question could be moot.
He got caught up peripherally in that whole "paying for Obama's old seat" thing last year and has been laying low ever since.
