Absolutely, Colin Powell and Allen West are warrior scholars. They did not get to the positions they achieved standing on the corner. In West's case as a colonel and commanded troops in Iraq he once attended the University of Tennessee, the General and Staff College, and Kansas State University. I may not agree with all of his position, but I'm willing to give the man credit and respect for what he accomplished. I wish many more black men can serve as role models despite their political beliefs. But the crab mentality prevent that as history has shown.
Sorry, but West is no role model IMO. If he were he would have had no problem getting re-elected. Plenty more qualified and more deserving black men out there who deserve to be called role models before that guy. A college education and military service does not/should not automatically make one a "role model".
We can support his commitment to the country but acting like an adult instead would have probably kept him at his seat.
I respect and appreciate his service, but disagree with everything I have ever heard him utter publicly.
THIS. All well and good that he served his country, but he did no service to his country or himself with his over the top antics and ravings. And clearly those who voted him out felt/thought the same.
I agree entirely. West is just one more example of Tea Party extremism hurting, instead of helping, the Republican Party.
Yep, I also respect West's military svc to his country. I do disagree with his political antics and shenanigans but the guy commanded troops and served his country when he was needed, he ain't joke.
Colin Powell was the real fucking deal... dude's record speaks for itself any 'officer' with the stones to serve in an infantry battalion during one of the bloodiest wars we fought, is a Warrior in my book. Didn't matter what rank you held..life expectancy..especially for infantry was dirt shit. Watch We Were Soldiers or google Hal Moore if you don't believe me. Mel Gibson may be a racist, but Hal Moore as a soldier was about as gangsta as they come. Dude was a LtCol and still found his ass on the frontlines getting shot at. more on powell tho http://teacher.scholastic.com/barrier/powellchat/transcript.htm -What was the most frightening experience of your life? "The first time somebody shot at me in Vietnam. I didn't get hit, but a soldier in the same patrol was killed, and I suddenly realized that this was no longer some training exercise or a game — it was for real. There were people out there on the other side of the war who were trying to kill me, and if they failed one day, they would try to kill me the next day. That was pretty scary to think about. " :smt033 Most frightening thing for West was probably that time one of his assistants forgot his tea. Powell was doing this shit since West was in straight up pampers.
That's all I'm saying. Yes West gets props for serving in the military, but other than that he's nowhere near the level of Powell in either accomplishments or in the way he conducts/conducted himself. If he carried himself with the same amount dignity and honor as Powell, at least then I could be able to respect the man more.
Allen West is nowhere like Colin Powell because he hanged with the wrong crowd of people and saying stupid things when he won the office of congress. Powell, the other hand rose to General and served in the civillian world with honor.
Oh yes, that fade haircut that ended in the early 90's. He looked like a retired member of a New Jack Swing group.
