THE GRIPE CORNER - SPECIAL 'NEWS BULLETIN' EDITION: Never knew of a holiday anywhere (with perhaps one exception) in which scarfing down as many dinner courses of some sort in the fastest time was the MAIN EXHIBIT of celebration.. http://www.nydailynews.com/ny_local...thans_july_fourth_hot_dog_eating_contest.html And then THIS guy comes in.... And proceeds to be an ungracious sport... By the way, it's not like The States are guilty of the sin of wasting perfectly good food in an already starving world. Testify Thee Hence: A Western European fiefdom or two (I ain't gonna give ya names...) with the smashing of tomatoes all over each other in the streets. And how many of those tomatoes do YOU think are culls (rejects) and NOT perfectly good & fresh munchies fit for eating? TELL me........ Like The Much Regretted George Carlin said...'Such healthy attitudes towards eating & nutrition'. Not to mention fair play and good sportsmanship..:smt018 Only in America.. (kinda...) Damn, that's some wacky shit. But I guess I'd be mad, too, if I couldn't compete in some shit I trained for. I like how the champion said dude was a "good eater", as if he's calling him a good rebounder, or some shit.
I'm sorry, but that guy's the king of competitive eating. He's the only reason anyone knows about it, pretty much the only reason it ever gets any coverage. Now, it's reasonable to suggest that the world'd be better off without competitive eating, but within the world in which he's operating, I think he should be getting more respect. The crowd was literally chanting "let him eat" over and over, so he got on the stage. Then he got arrested. Seems like an overreaction to me. Maybe they should have paid him right, from the get go. Also, it should be noted, you can't blame this all on the US. He's from Japan.
*Those* idiots are just as moronic and clueless as *this* form of "entertainment" is, IMO. Thank god for PBS in America & The BBC for the world outside of the United States... Entertainment in modern Western society has become *so much more* erudite & sophisticated since the days of throwing Christians to the lions.. Or at least offer him the 'consolation prize'.. LOL! Granted. But he *did* have to head Stateside to make his claim to fame, yes? OpinionsCartoonStudios@Yahoo.Co.UK
