Quite a few of the programmers I work with recommend Avast for antivirus/malware: http://www.avast.com/eng/download-avast-home.html and Spybot for spyware: http://www.safer-networking.org/en/download/index.html
I use Avast too, but I also use: CCLEANER: http://www.ccleaner.com/download AD-AWARE: http://www.lavasoft.com/products/ad_aware_free.php MALWARE BYTES ANTI-MALWARE:http://download.cnet.com/Malwarebytes-Anti-Malware/3000-8022_4-10804572.html?part=dl-10804572&subj=dl&tag=button FG, every time I shut off my computer, I run these programs beforehand. I've managed to keep my laptop running well for 4 yrs (minus a memory issue and a program locking up)...
I use those too as well as Comodo (firewall only): http://www.comodo.com/home/internet-security/firewall.php With Spybot I also run their teatimer utility in the background. http://www.safer-networking.org/en/faq/33.html Here is a screen shot of Comodo running: It allows you to click any of the blue links for more info.
Just in case anyone else views this thread. I would recommend Avast also, I put it on all my customers PC's who want it. Malewarebytes is a really good spyware program.
What in the world would cause my Microsoft Word to stop working. I can only open up documents but it won't let me edit them. It tells me they are locked and I need to re-enter my pin.
Sorry... I hate Avast-it brought a conflict to my PC some time back with my other programs.:smt021 Avast cannot stand up when it comes to AVG.
