The president, yourself, and I can set whatever agenda we want for a bill and can create whatever silly commission we want. The bill will not pass if congress doesn't vote on it. They are in charge. Too many americans have a delusional state of how powerful the president is. He only controls the executive branch. Nothing else. No amount of influence will change a member of congress's mind. That's why you see the half ass HC bill that you are complaining about. That's why he had to do back door deals to get some of the good stuff in the bill. Don't you think he would have gotten everything he could if he was so influential? Oh and the fiscal deficit committee's recommendation have almost all but been ignored by congress. No one will pass it in congress. Again, Congress runs the show. That's how influential the president is. He can't pass that thing even if he was still a member of congress. He, himself, knows it would be the end of his presidency. All the members are too scared to do it because it is pretty much be suicide for their career as a member of congress. You can't have it both ways. Oh look the president is so influential but still can't do a darn thing for health care. He is not that influential to congress and he knows it. That's why he turned to Nancy Pelosi to pass the HC bill. She had the power! not the president!

He took it off, huh? I love this part. I thought he set the agenda. I thought he was so influential. Since he set the agenda and is sooooo influential, why didn't he keep the public option? Why did he have to make so many back door deals? You know why. He has no power in congress. He knows it. Nancy Pelosi told him that if he tried to pass it as is. It would not pass!!! I can not stress this enough!!! She had to set the agenda. The president has no power in congress. This is an unrealistic view. You are not even addressing who is in power of making the bill into law. You are just taking shots at the president who again has no power to pass a bill. You might as well blame the next person you see on the street or Micheal Jordan. That's the first thing. I can't even began to address this since you are not even blaming the right people. When you do start blaming the right people(congress), I can say that it would have been impossible to get the bill that you want through because we have so many people that are so politicized and getting kick backs in congress you would not be able to pass the bill. Nancy and Harry knew it. Everyone knows it. You have to make these deals to get something out of it. This is a case of comparing what we had before the bill and what we have now. It is not a case of what we could of have because even the most liberal of people knew that wasn't going to happen.

over 80% of the population(that wants to work) is employed. What do you mean what jobs? go to a supermarket and you will see people working. I can agree with the rest. There has been nothing done. Obama again can not do anything. It will be up to congress and this is now a republican house. It is heavily pissed and wants to do what it can to put him out of the white house. Good luck with a bill with that kind of atmosphere. We barely got what little we could with the HC bill in a democrat house and senate.
By not bailing them out, you allow for foreign investors to come in and buy them or allow for a monopoly for a bigger bank. Both are bad problems for the american people. You would also add to the unemployment. Some banks are renegotiating and some are not. Each issue is unique. I am not going to toss a general statement to it.

This is heavily more complex than FDR's days. We did not have so much securities purchased from foreign entities. We did not have two new stars(India and china) coming up. We were not in two battles at the same time. We did not have over 10 trillion in debt. We did not have competition from Europe since they were at war. We did not have a failing auto industry. We did not introduce a new bill for financial regulations or for health care like we did. We can't even begin to estimate how those two bills turned to laws will affect us. There are so many factors. To make it even worse, We can't even determine if the new deal would have been successful or have failed due to the war taking up so much.

I agree about the path of Haiti. I have gotten tired of every one saying it is the poorest country in the western hemisphere. It has accomplished so much for a country that was given so little. Though I am not confident that the presidential candidates are prepared for what they are getting. I wish them luck because whoever wins just won a lot of work in very little amount of time.
